🚲🌳 What a fantastic day at Ty Mawr! 🌳🚲

A huge well done and thank you to Active Wrexham for organising such a superb community fun day to celebrate the official opening of the amazing new Bike Track at Ty Mawr.

This project has been a brilliant collaboration between Active Wrexham and Cefn Community Council, and today was a perfect example of what can happen when local organisations, partners and the community come together.

The day included North Wales Police carrying out bike marking and bike safety support, Wrexham AFC Foundation Coaches hosting football activities, cycling sessions, family fun, and so much more β€” there was so much going on it is almost impossible to name it all!

A special thank you must go to Mr Liam Jones, who is from our community and has worked incredibly hard to help make this happen. Liam is a credit to Active Wrexham, a credit to our community, and a credit to his family. Liam never wants thanks but he truly deserves it.

We would also like to recognise the hard work of our amazing Clerk, Trina Nicholls-Smith, alongside Active Wrexham’s wonderful Louise Brady, who helped bring this project through to completion.

The Bike Track is now officially open, and it is here for the children, young people and families of our community to enjoy.

πŸ‘ Thank you Liam. Thank you Active Wrexham. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.

🌳 Plaskynaston MUGA – National Forest for Wales Application Update 🌳

This afternoon, the final inspection stages were conducted at the Plaskynaston MUGA as Cefn Community Council now awaits the outcome of its application to Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales for the National Forest for Wales Status Scheme.

Throughout this process, we have learned even more about the natural value we have right here at our very own MUGA. The site is home to a wide range of tree species, including Green Beech, Field Maple, Silver Birch, Plum, Hazel, Pear, Medlar, Damson, Apple/Crab Apple, Hawthorn, Whitebeam, Common Dogwood, Oriental Prunus/Ornamental Cherry and Walnut.

The inspection also highlighted the presence of ancient woodland indicator species, including Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta), Yellow Pimpernel (Lysimachia nemorum), Goldilocks Buttercup (Ranunculus auricomus) and Common Dog-violet (Viola riviniana).

These findings show the importance of the MUGA site not only as a community sporting and recreational facility, but also as a valuable natural environment with real heritage, biodiversity and educational potential.

Cefn Community Council would like to thank Shane and his colleague for their time, support and encouragement during the inspection process, and for welcoming the application that has been completed.

Community Development Officer Andrew Ruscoe commented:

β€œWish us luck. This application is about recognising what we already have in Cefn and celebrating the natural value of the Plaskynaston MUGA site. It is a place for sport, community, learning, biodiversity and future generations. To discover that we have ancient woodland indicators at our very own MUGA is something we should all be proud of.”

We now await the result and hope that Plaskynaston MUGA can become part of the growing National Forest for Wales network. 🌳

πŸ¦” Local Residents Mr & Mrs Richards Join the Fight to Save Our Local Hedgehogs πŸ¦”

This morning, Mr Richards collected his free Hedgehog House Kit, helping to support and protect our local prickly friends, whose numbers are sadly in decline across the UK.

The kit was made possible thanks to Cefn Community Council becoming Hedgehog Ambassadors, through Wrexham County Borough Council’s Local Places for Nature Fund.

Community Development Officer Andrew Ruscoe welcomed Mr and Mrs Richards and praised them for their vigilance, care and commitment to local wildlife.

Andrew said:

β€œIt is fantastic to see residents like Mr and Mrs Richards taking positive action to help protect our hedgehogs. Small steps like providing shelter, creating safe garden spaces and raising awareness can make a real difference. Their support shows the true community spirit we have here in Cefn.”

By placing hedgehog homes in gardens and green spaces, residents can help provide safe shelter, nesting areas and protection for one of Britain’s most loved native species.

A huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Richards for playing their part in helping to save our local hedgehogs. πŸ¦”πŸ’š

Ysgol Min-Y-Ddol Storm Back to the Top in Fine Fashion 🀝⚽️

It was a fantastic afternoon of futsal at Plas Madoc Leisure Centre today as Ysgol Min-Y-Ddol produced a brilliant performance to return to the top of the North East Wales Football Association Regional Primary Schools Futsal League in collaboration with Active Wrexham.

With the latest results now placing them back at the summit, Ysgol Min-Y-Ddol need just one more point to make Welsh history by becoming the first-ever NEWFA Primary Schools League Champions.

The afternoon was made even more special as the league welcomed Mr Paul Kelly of Wrexham Futsal Youth Development Sector who joined the team to referee matches alongside Community Development Officer Andy Ruscoe.

Speaking after the event, Andy Ruscoe paid tribute to Paul’s huge contribution to the sport locally:

β€œIf it wasn’t for the legendary Paul Kelly, who has brought through so many talented young players over the last 15 or 16 years and helped start the futsal revolution in Wrexham, I wouldn’t have had the futsal experiences I’ve had. To have him on board is a massive coup.”

The girls’ game opened the afternoon β€” and what a game it was. The atmosphere inside Plas Madoc was superb, with plenty of smiles, encouragement and teamwork on show.

More importantly, the event once again highlighted what this league is all about: developing futsal, bringing schools together, creating opportunities, and building positive collaboration across the community.

🌧️🚀 Community Spirit on the Water! 🚀🌧️

Today, our wonderful Community Agent, Donna Elizabeth Powell Thornley, has been out with the residents of Plas Telford on a fantastic canal boat ride to The Poachers Pocket for lunch.

Despite the rainy weather, the residents had an amazing time, enjoying great company, lovely food and a memorable day out together. πŸ’™

A huge thank you to Donna for continuing to support our community and help create these special moments for local residents.
