WLW
We are a group of Wrexham women bound by two important threads:
• We are proud members of the Labour Party
• We are committed to working positively in our community
The Labour Party’s founding principles of fairness, equality and social justice drive us forward in our community work but we recognise that much of our community involvement is apolitical and we respect that situation entirely. Th
erefore, the projects we organise or support in the community are chosen because of our genuine sense of community spirit and certainly not based on any political motivation. We welcome anyone who wants to champion our aim of helping where we can. We started the WINGS Wrexham period dignity scheme in 2018 with the financial backing of Wrexham Labour Party and since then have raised funds ourselves to sustain the scheme. As part of a lobbying group, we were delighted when the Welsh Government introduced its period dignity funding programme which provides free sanitary products to schools and communities throughout Wales. Period dignity transcends any political framework so we continue with our WINGS Wrexham project on a purely apolitical basis. We meet as a group on a monthly basis, invite guest speakers from the Wrexham community and learn a great deal. We are a group of women with a broad range of skills and backgrounds but linked by the need to engage in positive action for the Wrexham community. We do not want to be a talking shop with action not just words as our mantra! Importantly, we have fun together and feel a real sense of purpose by supporting local projects and organising our own. We hope you will follow our work, engage with us and if you run a community project and need support, let us know.
