What’s happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK? 🌍

📢 Don't miss a special community screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing here at Hope Community Library on 16th October at 7pm.

This eye-opening 50-minute film brings together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like:

🌧️Extreme weather
🍞 Food security
🏥 Health
💷 Cost of living

The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden, and a range of voices from across the UK. After the film there will be an open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally.

We’re thrilled to host Miranda Kaufmann at Hope Community Library this Friday, during her nationwide tour celebrating the release of her fascinating new book, Heiresses: Marriage, Inheritance and Caribbean Slavery.

Dr Kaufmann is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London. She is also the acclaimed author of Black Tudors: The Untold Story, which was shortlisted for both the Wolfson History Prize and the Nayef Al-Rodhan Prize and longlisted for the Historical Writers Association Non-Fiction Crown.

This special event is part of our First Friday Speakers series, brought to you in association with Hwb Caergwrle and Hope Community Council.

Amanda Williams recently delivered a fabulous talk on The Oxford Brain Story. It was a fascinating insight into how early experiences shape us. These First Friday sessions are so valuable for our local community: they spark conversations, curiosity, and connection. We received some fantastic remarks about this talk, so thank you, Amanda, for sharing your expertise! 🧠

📚✨ Library Volunteers Wanted! ✨📚

Hope Community Library is calling for volunteers to help out between 10am and 3pm on Saturdays. It's a flexible role, and we work on a rota, so you won't be needed every Saturday! The shifts run from 10:00am to 12:30 and 12:30 to 15:00, and you'll always work alongside another volunteer.

Join a friendly team, sorting books and helping visitors. You can also get involved in planning events and supporting community groups, if you wish. 📖

If you’re enthusiastic about helping your local area, this is your chance! DM us to express your interest. Please provide your telephone number, and a committee member will be in touch! 💌

🐾 Oh me, oh my… it’s Gruffalo Granny! 🐾

Fans of Julia Donaldson will be thrilled to know that we’ve got our hands on two copies of the brand-new Gruffalo Granny! 📚

This is no ordinary new release. Gruffalo Granny is the first new Gruffalo story in more than 20 years, bringing us a brand-new adventure from the much-loved dream team of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. 💚

Our copies will be available to borrow from the library this Saturday, and we’ll soon be announcing the dates for a very special Gruffalo-themed storytime and crafts session here at Hope Community Library! 📖🎨🐭
