Child Safety Week

The bond between your child and dog can bring fun and happiness to family life. While we don’t expect our own dog to bite, it’s important to remember any dog can bite if they feel they have no other option.

Your dog’s body language tells you how they’re feeling. Being able to spot the signs early and separate your dog and your child helps you to stop a situation from becoming risky.

Teach your child to leave your dog alone when they are:
- Sleeping - no-one likes to be woken up suddenly
- Eating or having a treat - they might think you're going to take their food
- Have a toy or something else they really like - they might not want to share!

Starting next week / GroBrain Toddler.

As a parent/carer you may feel quite frustrated at times by your toddler’s apparent lack of co-operation, asking yourself, “Are they just acting up?”

These sessions help give insight into toddler behaviour to help you as a parent/carer lay strong foundations for your child’s emotional wellbeing.

The course is for parents and carers of children aged 1-3 years and consists of five sessions where the following topics are explored;
» Toddler brain development.
» Attachment and emotional development.
» Helping toddlers manage their behaviour.
» Communication, play and school readiness.

Talk with me! Our tip for June is 'Lets look at books together'.

Did you know that talking about the pictures in books helps your little one to learn new words? Try using funny faces and voices to tell the story!

Child Safety Week, 1st-7th June 2026

Young children are naturally curious and want to see what’s out the window but have no real understanding of danger. Parents often see falls from windows as ‘freak’ accidents, but the statistics belie that view.

Safety Advice:
- Keep low furniture away from open windows so that children can't climb up and fall out
- Install window catches (to limit how far they can open) and locks if you can
- If you opt for a lock keep the keys somewhere you can find them in case of emergencies
