Revised Guidance for Early Years and Childcare Small Capital Grant

Welsh Government have released revised guidance for the Early Years and Childcare Grant which will enable childcare settings to apply for the following;

Registered Childcare Places, Maximum for FY26-27(including any previous award)

Maximum Award Childminders registered up to 10 places £10,000

Childcare providers registered for up to 15 places £20,000

Childcare providers registered for 16 to 29 places £30,000

Childcare providers registered for 30+ places £40,000

In order for the Childcare Team to access the additional funding we will be required to submit a bid to Welsh Government; the funding will not be automatically awarded to the Local Authority for distribution. If your setting would benefit from accessing the revised funding amount you will need to submit your application by no later than the 16th September 2026. If you wish to submit an application within the original maximum funding allocation for your settings registered places as detailed within the Guidance for the Early Years and Childcare Funding Scheme, the original submission timeframe of the 9th September to the 23rd of September will still apply.

To apply for the revised funding amount, you must be able to demonstrate how the funding will support your setting to meet the requirements of the Welsh Government Childcare Expansion, this will include making adaptations to accommodate children from the age of 9 months where appropriate.

If your setting will be applying for the additional funding, it is highly recommended that you attend one of the support sessions as detailed below to discuss the application with a member of the Childcare Team. There will be no opportunity to revise the application after the deadline has passed and if the application is deemed ineligible, it will therefore not be included in the bid to Welsh Government.
