We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to attend the Childcare Expansion Consultation Events held last Tuesday and Thursday. The excellent attendance across both events reflected the considerable interest in the childcare expansion and the strength of feeling within the sector to help shape its future development.

It was inspiring to see the passion, commitment and dedication in the room to ensure that the childcare expansion moves forward in a way that supports children, parents, childcare settings and the wider workforce. Your contributions and insights were invaluable, and we greatly appreciate the time taken to share your views and experiences.

We are currently reviewing all of the feedback gathered across both events and collating this into a report. This report will be shared with senior leaders and councillors within the Council, as well as with Welsh Government. We are committed to ensuring that your voices are heard as Welsh Government continues to develop its future plans for childcare expansion.

Childcare Expansion Consultation Event
Welsh Government have announced plans to develop the funded childcare offer with the ultimate commitment that all children from 9 months to 4 years across Wales should be able to benefit from a simpler, high quality and more consistent funded childcare offer of 20 hrs per week for 48 weeks of the year.
They have stated their intention is to take a phased and sequenced approach with full implementation being achieved by the end of March 2030.
We would like to invite you to attend a consultation event to hear more about the proposals and share your views. Your feedback will help us understand how this expansion could impact on your business and inform local planning and implementation.
This is an opportunity to:
• Ensure that childcare providers have a voice and the Local Authority are able to feed this back to Welsh Government
• Identify and understand potential opportunities and challenges for childcare providers.
• Identify potential mitigations for challenges and barriers
• Help inform future delivery arrangements, including phasing and sequencing.
We would welcome participation from all childcare providers. Your insight is invaluable in helping us prepare for this significant opportunity to move towards this increased universal funded childcare offer.

Positive Children, Positive Behaviour for Wraparound Settings

This course highlights the fundamental difference in approach for a wraparound setting when compared with early years or education-based settings and gives a unique roadmap for improving outcomes for all our wonderfully diverse children. This can really help practitioners especially if they feel like they are struggling. The course also explores some of the myths around behaviour and gives concrete strategies for unlocking pro-social behaviour and some incredible new research into just why traditional methods are not effective. This can have a dramatic effect on the children, the practitioners and the setting as a whole.
Course Aims
• To promote positive behaviour for children at an Out of School setting
• To highlight a series of practical solutions for dealing with negative behaviour
• To illustrate how to use positive behaviour techniques to extend and improve play
• To inspire learners to spend less time on maintaining behaviour and more on having fun.
