Royal Palm is one of those hotels.

We’ve just spent two nights at this Mauritian icon and, after more than 40 years at the very top of luxury hospitality, there’s a confidence here that doesn’t need to shout.

Opened in 1985, Royal Palm became the first hotel in Mauritius to join The Leading Hotels of the World and today holds the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating.

Royal Palm has long been the jewel in Beachcomber Luxury’s crown - an icon of Mauritian hospitality with more than four decades of pedigree behind it.

But it wasn’t the accolades that impressed us most.

With just 69 ocean-facing suites, Royal Palm feels intimate, peaceful and beautifully understated. There’s an old-school elegance here that we absolutely loved.

And then there are the details.

Acqua di Parma toiletries in your suite. The beautiful Valmont Spa. Impeccable beach and pool service, Breakfast overlooking the Indian Ocean and most watersports included in your stay.

Would we change anything?

At this level, we felt the food could have been stronger in places and, with only two restaurants available for dinner during our stay, we would have welcomed a little more choice.

But that’s exactly why we experience these hotels ourselves.

Luxury isn’t about pretending somewhere is perfect. It’s about understanding what makes it special, noticing the details and knowing who it will be perfect for.

For us, Royal Palm is about privacy, tranquillity, exceptional service and a style of luxury that feels increasingly rare.

You can see beautiful photographs online.

But you can’t Google how a hotel feels.

And Royal Palm has a feeling all of its own.

Thinking about flying Business or First Class for your next escape?

As Personal Travel Consultants, we’re increasingly booking premium cabins for our clients - and we believe there’s no substitute for experiencing the product first-hand.

So, on our journey to Mauritius, it was time for us to experience Emirates Business Class onboard the iconic A380.

And from the moment we boarded, it felt less like stepping onto an aircraft and more like checking into a luxury boutique hotel.

Travelling on the upper deck of the double-decker A380 meant our experience began with priority boarding through a dedicated airbridge, followed by a warm welcome onboard with a glass of Moët & Chandon and a hot towel.

Once settled into Business Class, the attention to detail continued. Our seats had their own minibar, Emirates’ world-leading ICE entertainment system and a seat that transformed into fully flat beds, complete with mattress toppers, pillows and blankets.

Then there were those little touches that really define a luxury experience.

Beautifully presented dining served on Royal Doulton crockery with Robert Welch cutlery, Ch*****ne poured at your seat and a Bvlgari amenity kit waiting onboard.

They may sound like small details, but when you’re choosing a premium cabin, these are exactly the things we want to experience and understand for our clients.

And one of the real highlights? The famous Emirates A380 onboard lounge.

There’s something rather special about walking to the back of the aircraft, taking a seat at the bar and enjoying a glass of Moët at 39,000 feet.

For us, experiencing Business Class isn’t simply about enjoying a little luxury. It gives us first-hand knowledge of the products we recommend and book for our clients - right down to those finer details that can make all the difference.

Because luxury travel doesn’t have to start when you arrive at your hotel.

Tomorrow, it’s our turn… Mauritius awaits. 🇲🇺

The travel documents have arrived, the passports are ready and after months of planning holidays for our wonderful clients, tomorrow we’ll be experiencing the journey for ourselves.

We’re heading to Mauritius with Beachcomber Tours, spending two weeks experiencing some of the island’s most beautiful hotels, restaurants and resorts first-hand.
