CHARLIE’S CORNER – EXTENDED TEMPORARY CLOSURE
To give the grass the best possible chance to recover and establish properly, Charlie’s Corner will remain closed until Friday 30 October 2026.

The original closure was necessary because the grassed area had been damaged by holes dug by dogs. Repairs have been carried out and the area has been re-seeded, but unfortunately the hot and dry weather has meant that the new grass seed has not established as well as hoped.

We appreciate that residents will be disappointed that the closure needs to be extended, particularly as we know Charlie’s Corner is valued by the community. However, allowing the grass more time to establish now will help ensure the area can be enjoyed safely for the longer term.

We kindly ask everyone to continue to respect the temporary closure and keep dogs and people off the newly seeded area while the grass recovers.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Falcon Centre Volunteer Day – Update

Due to the hot weather forecast, we've taken the decision to postpone the Falcon Centre volunteer day planned for 29 August.

Rather than working in what could be very high temperatures, we'll reschedule the volunteer day for September. A new date will be confirmed and shared as soon as possible.

Thank you to everyone who has offered to help – we look forward to seeing you in September.

Raised Zebra Crossing Update – Main Road

The Parish Council have been working with Northumberland County Council for over two years to bring a raised zebra crossing to Main Road.

Following the completion of the design work, Northumberland County Council is now ready to begin consultation with nearby residents and the Parish Council before the scheme is finalised.

Following comments received from residents, the proposed zig-zag markings on the Ingham Terrace side of the road have been reduced. You can see the latest proposed design in the image below.

Following the consultation, further updates will be shared as the project progresses.

If anyone has further questions regarding the crossing please contact the Clerk - [email protected]

Digital Landline Switchover – Just 4 Months to Go

There are now just four months until the UK's analogue landline network is switched off in January 2027.

If you still use a traditional landline, please don't ignore any letters from your telephone provider about the digital switchover.

If you or someone you know uses a telecare device or personal alarm, make sure your provider is aware so the right support can be provided.

Please also take a few moments to check that older relatives, friends and neighbours know about the changes.

SAVE THE DATE – Community Volunteer Morning

Many of you will have noticed that the Falcon Centre site has become increasingly overgrown over recent months. Before any future work can be considered, the site needs a good clear-up.
Wylam Parish Council is organising a Community Volunteer Morning on Saturday 29 August 10.30am – 1.00pm

We'll be clearing brambles and overgrowth around the site, and any help would be very welcome. Whether you can spare half an hour or stay for the whole morning, every pair of hands will make a difference.

Further details, including what to bring and arrangements for the morning, will be shared nearer the time.

Digital Landline Switchover – 6 months to go

Each month we'll be sharing information to help residents prepare for the switch from analogue to digital landlines before January 2027.

The UK's analogue landline network will be switched off in January 2027.

If you still use a traditional landline, your phone provider will contact you before your service is switched to a digital connection.

The change will take place in stages over the coming months.
Some residents, particularly those who rely on their landline, use telecare or personal alarm systems, or have additional needs, may need extra support during the switchover.

Please take a few moments to read the information below. If you have family members, friends or neighbours who may be affected, please make sure they are aware of the changes.

We will share regular updates and information in the lead up to the January 2027 deadline.
