🎨 New Mural Coming to Wymondham Market Place
We would like to let residents and visitors know that, following planning approval (2026/1074), work has now started on a new feature as part of the Wymondham Public Realm scheme.
A mural is being created under the Fire Arch in the centre of town, with professional artist Julia Allum working on site over the next few weeks to bring the design to life.
For safety, temporary fencing will be in place around the work area and access to some of the bike racks immediately adjacent to the Fire Arch will be restricted while the mural is being painted. Alternative covered bike racks are available on the other side of the arch, as well as additional cycle parking in and around the town.
Access to and from Market Street car park and the public toilets will remain available throughout the works.
We hope residents and visitors will enjoy watching the mural take shape over the coming weeks and look forward to seeing the finished design.

📢 Public Noticeboard – Market Place
The public noticeboard located under the Fire Arch has temporarily been removed by the Public Realm Project team. This is to allow the existing noticeboards to be consolidated on one side of the arch, creating space for the new mural (planning application 2026/1074) on the other side.
Due to the reduced space available, a new, smaller public noticeboard will be ordered in due course. This will still provide space for the same type of public information and notices.
The Public Realm Project team will endeavour to have the new noticeboard installed as soon as possible.

Wymondham (6505-6229-4666-7213) Notice

In accordance with the provisions of Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Norfolk County Council HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that owing to a burst water main the use by vehicles (of any class) of Wymondham Road from its junction with Bridge Road for 75 metres eastwards (the “Road”) in the Town of Wymondham will be temporarily prohibited/restricted.

Alternative route is via: Wymondham Road, Ashwellthorpe Road, Gravel Pit Hill, The Street, Silfield Road, Silfield Street (Wreningham, Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall, Spooner Row, Wymondham).

The works promoter for this restriction/closure is: Anglian Water.

The closure/restriction is necessary because of the likelihood of danger to the public or serious damage to the Road or both.

The closure/restriction is anticipated to take place from 23rd to 29th July 2026 but the Road may continue to be closed/restricted until the 12th August 2026 where the closure/restriction is still required beyond the anticipated dates.

This Notice shall automatically revoke on the completion of the works / when the closure/restriction is no longer necessary or otherwise on the 12th August 2026 without further notice.

If necessary, this Notice may be extended for an additional 21 days by further Notice and/or for a maximum of 18 months from the date this Notice is effective by further Order.

Any existing restrictions or prohibitions within Orders made under the RTRA 1984 will become suspended where they conflict with the provisions of this Notice during the operation of this Notice.

A person who contravenes, or who uses or permits the use of a vehicle in contravention of the restriction/ closure imposed by the Order shall be guilty of an offence.

Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.

📮 Wymondham Post Office Public Petition 📮

Have your say on the future of a town centre Post Office in Wymondham.

A public petition will be available to sign at Wymondham Friday Market on Friday 17th July, during the morning. Ben Goldsborough MP will also be at the Market Place, where residents can come along to sign the petition and show their support.

If you're unable to make it to the market, copies of the petition will also be available to sign at:

In addition, Town Councillors will be visiting residents door-to-door over the next couple of weeks, giving people another opportunity to sign the petition.

Please note: To sign the petition, you must be a resident of the South Norfolk constituency. Unfortunately, signatures from people living outside the constituency boundaries cannot be accepted. Individuals can only sign the petition once.

UPDATE - from the Public Realm Project Team

"Public realm works at The Fairland have progressed well and are ahead of schedule. The path has been set out and laid and the landscaping has now commenced. Some new planting has taken place and the contractors have secured the new area and paused works. The welfare unit and contactor vehicles have left the site and the parking spaces will be released back to use. The new seating is on order and when it arrives, contractors will return to install but with less need for disruption, estimated to be in a few weeks’ time. The new area will remain fenced off until the seating has been installed. Once the seating is installed towards the end of July the area will be opened up for use. There will still be further planting and landscaping elements to come at the optimal time in September, with further updates in due course.

Mayor Lucy Nixon and Cllr Suzanne Nuri-Nixon attended the flag raising by the Wymondham Branch of the Royal British Legion at Priory Gardens today, marking the start of Armed Forces Week.

The ceremony took place at the War Memorial in Town Green, bringing people together to recognise and thank the Armed Forces community.

Armed Forces Week is the nation's chance to show support for serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets, cadet adult volunteers and military families, and to reflect on the contribution they make to our country and communities.

Thank you to all those who serve, have served, and support others through service life.

🌿 Celebrating Rothbury Park 🌿

Yesterday afternoon we were delighted to welcome partners, funders and supporters to Rothbury Park for the official opening and celebration of the completed improvement project.

The event marked the unveiling of a new interpretation sign, which shares the story of how the park has been transformed through community feedback, partnership working and investment in the town’s green spaces.

Over the past year, Rothbury Park has been reshaped into a more welcoming, accessible and inclusive space for the community to enjoy. The improvements include new accessible pathways, better seating, natural play features, raised planting beds, wildflower areas and new planting to support wildlife and biodiversity.

The project has turned an underused green space into a place where people of all ages can meet, play, walk, relax, enjoy nature and spend time outdoors.

The new sign also recognises the organisations, contractors and funding partners who helped bring the project to life, including Wymondham Town Council, Greening Wymondham, Groundwork East, JDMA paving and landscaping, South Norfolk Council and the Greater Norwich Growth Board.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this special milestone for Rothbury Park.
