BEAUTIFUL TOWN - FASCINATING HISTORY (& Easter Opening)
The Reading Corner on the upper floor of Yarm Town Hall Heritage Centre is the perfect spot to sit and soak up the sunshine through our Georgian windows whilst browsing our growing collection of 'out of print' books about Yarm and the surrounding area. Everything from photographic books, shipbuilding, the railway, pubs, the river and the fishing club to academic studies (e.g. Dr Chris Caple on the Yarm Helmet). A massive thank you to all of you who have kindly donated hard to find books.
We are open this afternoon until 5pm and tomorrow; our times / activity is as follows:
Good Friday - OPEN 1- 4.00 PM
Saturday - OPEN 1- 4.00 pm
Easter Sunday - CLOSED
(There will be a Heritage Easter Egg Hunt involving historic locations around Yarm - details to follow !)
Easter Monday - CLOSED

Hope to see you soon and wishing everyone a lovely Easter weekend.

PAYING OUR RESPECTS:
EX-COUNCILLOR AND CHAIRMAN, DAVID CHARLES HENDERSON
The Union flag on the Town Hall is at half mast - it is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of David Henderson. Councillor Henderson gave voluntary service to the Parish of Yarm as Councillor and Chairman at Yarm Town Council. He is remembered by us with great respect and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

WARNING : Headstones at Yarm Cemetery
Please do not place fallen headstones upright ⚠️⚠️⚠️.
Please do not move hazard signs (We appreciate these may seem unsightly but they are very necessary).
People may recall our sad post regarding headstones toppled by vandals the other week - so upsetting. We are correcting the damage but there are a number of essential steps to be put in place before this happens for all memorials. We recognise and respect the urge to seemingly ‘put right‘ a loved one’s grave as soon as possible but if this is not done by a qualified stone mason this is extremely dangerous (I.e. if the headstone is just stood upright without being fixed it can easily fall on someone). Please ensure all children are supervised whilst in the cemetery and dogs kept on leads.
We’d like to thank everyone who has been in touch for their courtesy, patience and civility in speaking with us at this difficult time for all affected.
For help and information please contact the town clerk on 07399 576254 or [email protected].

THE QUEEN'S ROYAL HUSSARS MEET FRIENDS OF YARM TOWN HALL HERITAGE CENTRE (YTHHC).
Every year, a retired Lieutenant Colonel of The Queen's Royal Hussars comes to Yarm to clean the grave of Tom Brown, the Hero of the Battle of Dettingen (1743), and Hero of Yarm. As a result of this link with St Mary Magdalene Church, The Friends of Yarm Town Hall Heritage Centre hosted a visit by The Queen's Royal Hussars Association. Chair of the Friends of YTHHC, Jo Faulkner, received a presentation from the regimental museum Curator about 'The Valiant Dragoon' and a specially signed regimental edition of the book 'In Search of Thomas Brown'. Most importantly, we look forward to working with the The Queen's Royal Hussars' Museum on research, events and exhibitions in the future - keeping alive the legacy of our hero Tom, locally and nationally. To The Queen's Royal Hussars - thank you for a wonderful visit.
