Drill night was a little bit different for us this week!

We were joined by Sam and Ashleigh from Watkins & Tasker Vets, who gave us a really useful run through of small animal first aid, covering some of the situations we may come across when dealing with animals at incidents.

We were also joined by crews from Blagdon Firefighters, Weston-super-Mare Firefighters and Clevedon Firefighters, making it a great opportunity to learn together and share knowledge.

Smokey, Clevedon’s resident dog mannequin, even got a once over too by the vets which was only fair, considering he regularly gets put through his paces during our BA training exercises!

⚠️⚠️There is a very high risk of wildfires nationally ⚠️⚠️

Please consider anything you are doing that may cause a fire.

Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire placing lives, homes, businesses, and our firefighters at risk.

Please follow our advice:
❌ Don't have barbeques
❌ Don't light firepits
❌ Don't light garden incinerators or burn garden waste
❌ Don't set off fireworks
❌ Don't drop ci******es, matches or smoking materials on the ground
❌ Don't leave glass bottles and litter in open spaces
❌ Don't leave mirrors or reflective objects where they could focus sunlight
❌ Don't park vehicles on dry grass
❌ Don't use machinery that creates sparks near dry areas
❌ Don't use equipment that is overheating
❌ Don't ignore damaged vehicles or equipment that could generate heat or sparks
❌Don't let cut grass, straw or debris build up around engines and moving parts
❌ Don't refuel machinery while it's hot or running
❌ Don't leave machinery unattended while operating

If you see or suspected a fire, please call 999 immediately. The quicker we know about a fire, the sooner we can get there and stop it from spreading.

It’s been a busy day for Yatton, with crews springing into action from the early hours right through this afternoon.

Our crew was mobilised at 02:39 to provide standby cover at Avonmouth, helping ensure emergency response remained available where it was needed most.

Later in the day, we joined crews from Winscombe Firefighters to maintain cover while our colleagues responded to incidents across the county.

Throughout the afternoon, we then attended a range of incidents including one mud rescue!

Days like today highlight the importance of teamwork across the Service so we want to say a big thank you to everyone involved today.

Grass fire spotted? Act fast 🔥

• Get to a safe location, away from the fire
• Call 999 immediately, don’t assume it’s been reported
• Share an accurate location (use apps like what3words)
• Wait somewhere safe if asked and give more details
• Don’t try to tackle the fire yourself
• Stay away from the area, don’t slow emergency response
• Follow all advice from emergency services (evacuate or stay indoors if told)

Morning Yatton!

It's brilliant to see continued donations to support the great work the Firefighters Charity do.

Small ask is that if the donation bin is full, to refrain from leaving outside as this is an area we train in and will now need to arrange removal of the extra items.
