RAF Harrowbeer 1940s Weekend, 22nd & 23rd August 2026!

RAF Harrowbeer 85th Anniversary Event

2026 sees the 85th Anniversary of the opening of RAF Harrowbeer, the WWII fighter airfield at Yelverton, which opened on the 15th August 1941. To commemorate this, the RAF Harrowbeer Interest Group (HIG) will be holding one of their popular 1940s Weekends on the 22nd & 23rd August.

The 1940s Weekend will feature period re-enactors, vintage displays, plus classic and military vehicles and will be centred around the Dispersal Bay at Axtown, restored by the HIG in 2011. Although entry and parking are both free, the event does need financial support and the HIG is asking for donations to help cover costs. Full details on how you can help are on the website, www.rafharrowbeer1940s.co.uk.

Link Trainer. Harrowbeer had one of these and the pilots would use it for night-flying training. I believe it was used to keep their flying hours up during periods of bad weather, Common at Harrowbeer during 1943.

Many casualties came into Harrowbeer and then went to Plasterdown. Difficult to visualise what used to be there.

One of our Bowsers is missing!
Following our hugely successful 1940s Weekend, someone removed one of SWWA's water bowsers from the site on Sunday night. They would like it back. Not sure who would want a water bowser but can you bring it back please. This is the one that disappeared. It was next to the NAAFI tent. The Police have been informed.

Not long to go now! Final preparations are underway for the 2025 1940s Weekend. Weather forecast looks good so we will only need an umbrella to keep the sun off!

Please remember we rely on donations to keep the show going. You can make a donation with cash, card (on the day) and online. Point your phone at the QR code on the poster. More information on the website.

Less than two weeks to go to our 2025, RAF Harrowbeer 1940s Weekend. The website will have more details of the weekend events shortly - once we've worked out the timings!
Hopefully all those re-enactors groups and MVT owners planning on coming have all booked in via our website. We'd still love a few more RAF re-enactors to come and join us on our Harrowbeer display. If you fly solo as an RAF type (see what we did there!) then come along and introduce yourselves. You'll be made very welcome.
