Organised by the Entomological Society, this week celebrates the "little things that run the world". Here at the farm, our fields and hedgerows are absolutely buzzing with life! Insects are the ultimate farm helpers, working hard behind the scenes to pollinate our hay crops and keep our soil healthy.

Get ready to have your mind blown by these incredible insect facts:

🍕 Food Directors: Did you know that one in three mouthfuls of the food we eat depends entirely on insect pollination?
🌍 Mega Population: There are over 24,000 known species of insects in the UK alone. Many of them love calling our farm home!

🦸 Eco Superheroes: From breaking down waste to feeding local birds and bats, our farm ecosystem would completely collapse without them.

To celebrate, we are running our very own Farm Bug Hunt starting TOMORROW (Wednesday 24th) to Friday 26th! Pack up the family and head down to see us for some hands-on fun:

• 🕵️‍♂️ Join the Hunt: Swing by the reception desk when you arrive to grab your magnifying glass and bug hunting equipment! Then, explore our open areas, peek under logs, and look closely at the wildflowers to see how many creepy-crawlies you can spot.

📸 Snap a National Entry: Take a picture of a cool bug during your visit and submit it online to the national Entomological Society Photography Competition at insectweek.org!

• 🏨 Get Bug Hotel Inspiration: Check out the natural habitats around the farm to get ideas for building your own bug hotel at home.Come enjoy the fresh air, stretch your legs, and see how many multi-legged neighbours you can spot! ☀️

🎀✨ Stop everything you are doing because Monday Cuteness just reached a whole new level! ✨🎀

Meet our newest little arrival! 🐥💕 Farmer Gizelle has been working hard on a very special little project, and the results are finally here. Everyone, please give a warm welcome to our absolutely stunning new Showgirl Chicken chick!

Just look at that face in the photo! 😍 With that ultra-fluffy, cream-colored down body, those striking dark eyes, and that fabulous, signature "bad hair day" head crest, this little one is already a total diva. Farmer Gizelle is so incredibly proud of her adorable new arrivals, and honestly, can you blame her? We are completely in love! 💖

🌱 The Start of Something Amazing!
The most exciting part? This adorable baby is only our very first generation! We are right at the beginning of this fun breeding adventure, and we absolutely cannot wait to see what the next few generations turn out like as our little project progresses! 🧬✨

🤔 What on earth is a Showgirl Chicken?
For those who don't know, a Showgirl is a unique variety of chicken that looks like a little fluffy Muppet! They are a cross between the super soft, fur-like Silkie chicken and the bare-necked Transylvanian Naked Neck. They inherit all the amazing characteristics of a standard Silkie—like five toes on each foot, five-star gentleness, dark skin, and a pom-pom crest—but they sport a completely featherless, bare neck! Some even grow a little tuft of feathers at the front that looks just like a "bow tie." 🎀

🧬 How do you breed them?
It takes a lot of patience and generations of careful planning! To get this look, breeders initially cross a Naked Neck chicken with a Silkie to introduce the naked-neck gene. From there, the chicks are carefully bred back to pure Silkies over multiple generations. This helps perfect that ultra-fluffy Silkie feathering and sweet temperament while keeping that iconic bare neck. It is a true labour of love, which is why we are so thrilled for the future of our flock! 🏡🌾

This little superstar is already running around and showing off its unique style. We can't wait to watch it grow up and rock the farmyard runway! 🧑‍🌾

The incubator is rocking, chirping, and bursting with life as our fancy little Poland chicks make their grand debut! 🎸✨

🚜 DAY 3 UPDATE: Our new play area is flying along! 🚜

As you all know from our Day 1 post, the builders have officially taken over! Three days in, and things are shaping up so quickly. We just had to share how much it has changed already! 🙌✨

Take a look at what's popping up:
• 🏰 A fresh new climbing frame complete with a rooftop lookout and crawl tunnels!
• 🪲 A bouncing ladybird rocker ready for action.
• 🐴 Cute springy horses just waiting for our little adventurers.

The contractors have been busy laying down the foundations, flattening the mounds, and getting everything safe and shiny! ✨️
It won’t be long before our little adventurers zone is filled with giggles, big jumps, and endless farm-day fun! ☀️🌾

🎉 IT’S WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY! 🌾🐀

Remember the tiny baby rat that arrived a few weeks back after a scary run-in with a cat? ❤️🩹 Thanks to a speedy recovery, this little fighter was officially ready and rearing to go! 🚀

Check out this video of Farmer Lilly and Farmer Bryony releasing our little friend back into the great outdoors! 🎬👇 They found the most perfect, safe, and quiet spot for a fresh start. 🌳✨

Blink and you’ll miss it! This was one seriously fast release. The little one wasted absolutely no time leaping out of the carry case and scurrying off into the wild! 💨🏃‍♂️

🏗️ BIG NEWS FOR OUR LITTLE VISITORS! 🏗️

The wait is officially over... construction has officially kicked off TODAY on our brand-new, dedicated playground designed specifically for our smallest adventurers! 🥳✨

Here is what you need to know about what's coming next:
🏗️ Construction kicked off today, Tuesday 16th June!
⏱️ The building work will last for around 2 weeks.
✨ The excitement doesn't stop there—we are levelling up other areas of the farm with fresh new surprises at the exact same time!
🔨🔊 Expect some noise! There will be plenty of banging and drilling around the site while our builders do their thing.

🐷 THE FARM IS OPEN AS USUAL! 🐷
Don't worry, you can still come down and hang out with all your favourite animal friends! The farm is fully open, but please keep an eye out for construction around the site. A few tiny spots will be temporarily closed off to keep everyone completely safe while the magic happens. 🚜💛

🌈 Saying Goodbye to a Farm Legend: Rest in Peace, Milkshake 🌈

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share some very sad news. Today, we said a peaceful goodbye to our oldest and most iconic resident, Milkshake the rabbit, at the grand age of 9.

Milkshake was a giant cross Lop who had been with us since the very beginning. In fact, she was born here during our first year of opening, thanks to some very funny circumstances. Her father, Maverick, came to us after being found stranded on the A19. We tucked him away safely in a pen across the barn from our giant girls (Milkshake’s mother and grandmother) with plans to let him settle before being neutered. Maverick had other ideas. Around day five, he managed to jump out of his own pen, scale the girls' fence, and the rest is history! He left us with 21 giant cross Lop babies, and our beautiful Milkshake was one of them.

Losing her feels like the end of an era. Following a very short illness, a vet examination revealed a tumour in her chest cavity, and she passed away peacefully. To know Milkshake was to love her. She was famously a bit of a grumpy girl, but her big personality won over every single member of our staff throughout the years.

We are so saddened by her passing, and the barn feels far too quiet without her. We love and miss her already. Rest peacefully, Milkshake. 🐰❤️

🚜 OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW! 🏗️

Big changes are happening down on the farm today, and we are absolutely bursting with excitement!

Today’s mission? Saying goodbye to our old playhouse to make room for something epic. We are officially clearing the space for our brand-new, ultimate SAND AND EXCAVATOR AREA! 🥳🌾

But don't worry, the playhouse isn't gone for good! It will be back in action very soon in its fantastic new location! 🏡✨

A massive shoutout to our incredible handy men, Andy and Harry, who did an amazing job smashing through the takedown today. Elite teamwork right there! 💪🔨

Here is what you need to know about what's coming next:

🏗️ Construction kicks off on Tuesday, 16th June!
⏱️ The building work will last for around 2 weeks.
🎨 Our gorgeous new play area will also be underway at the exact same time!

🐷 THE FARM IS OPEN AS USUAL! 🐷
You can still come down and visit all your favourite animals! Just please be aware that construction will be happening around the site. A few small areas will be temporarily out of bounds to keep everyone safe while the magic happens.
