In general, we don’t moderate posts, except on the rare occasions - for example where someone has posted offensive, threatening or libellous content about named or identifiable individuals on our page. The weather is looking good this weekend, as are the gardens at Beningbrough. The garden team are working hard to keep everything looking great at this peak time in the season. With the recent rain, sun and warmth, the garden is blooming, so there’s colour and interest throughout. Whether you enjoy sitting by water in the Mediterranean garden or you prefer the dappled shade of the pergola, there’s plenty of places to pause and enjoy all the garden has to offer at this time of the year.

It’s not just humans that need to stay hydrated in these temperatures we’re experiencing but animals and insects, including bees too.

In the heat our bees have been extra busy keeping cool wherever they can. They collect water to take to the hive entrance, fan their wings and add droplets of water to the environment to help it stay cool.

Here, we can see the bee enjoying the pond water in the East Formal garden but you can help bees and other insects too by putting a dish or bowl outside, with water and some pebbles, so they have somewhere to land and enjoy a drink.

We’re in full swing at Beningbrough, enjoying the beautiful weather, this May Half Term.

Join Dart the Dragonfly as they take you on an adventure around the gardens with the new family trail or pop in on Tuesday and Thursday this week to discover what lives in a pond between 11am - 3pm.

And, after you found all of Dart’s friends, answered the questions and seen some interesting creatures from the pond, enjoy an ice cream sundae from The Hatch and pick a spot to relax on the lawn.

One things for sure this week, it’s going to be a sunny one, so pack the sun cream and we’ve got you covered for the rest.

Look at this beauty!

It’s amazing what you spot when you least expect it. This scarlet tiger moth is enjoying some of the foliage found in the Mediterranean garden. These beautiful looking insects, are on the decline due to the loss of habitats, intensive agriculture and climate change. They play an important role in biodiversity; both as pollinators and as a major food source for birds, bats and hedgehogs.

Believe it or not, they thoroughly enjoy a good munch through nettles and other weeds, so by keeping some of these plants in your garden can really help to support the ecosystem and enable these important insects to thrive.

Whilst the sunny warm weather is uplifting; wildlife and nature really do rely on rain here and there, so we’re celebrating a little wet today - like this Robin.

However, days like today are a good opportunity to think ahead to when the weather is better and tomorrow is looking much more dry!

So why not head over to Beningbrough and indulge in our brand new ice cream sundaes!! Served from The Hatch, these vanilla ice creams, with squirty cream, sauce, wafers and mini eggs are the perfect way to enjoy the bank holiday!

Something to look forward to tomorrow. See you there 🍦☀️
