Social Development Minister Sen. The Hon. Gloria Thomas, was resoundingly elected as Vice President at the 40th Assembly of delegates of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) new executive for the 2026-2029 term.
It was over 40 years since Grenada was represented on the executive of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) by Phyllis Coard. Forty plus years after Grenada finds itself on the executive in the position of Vice President.
Minister Thomas led the two-man delegation in Washington at the CIM Assembly of delegates which began with a call to settle the debt, focusing on the theme: “Women’s Economic Rights in the Americas: Policies and Strategies to Guarantee Autonomy and Bargaining Power.”
The three-day event recently concluded in Washington brought together Principal Delegates to the CIM (ministers and high-level authorities of national mechanisms for the advancement of women’s rights), representatives of Permanent and Observer Missions to the OAS, government officials, specialists from international organizations, cooperation agencies, civil society, and invited experts.
How to move from recognizing inequalities to public policies, regulatory frameworks, and regional cooperation mechanisms that strengthen women’s economic autonomy and bargaining power, were addressed by the assembly.
Government representatives and regional leaders convened to advance policies and cooperation aimed at strengthening the rights, empowerment and inclusion of women throughout the Americas.
