Another Successful Energy Efficiency Communications Campaign (E2C2) Workshop Held!

It was a pleasure to engage with stakeholders from the hotel and tourism sector and introduce practical energy efficiency concepts, approaches and opportunities relevant to their operations.

The tourism sector is one of the major consumers of energy in Grenada, making energy efficiency an important pathway for reducing energy costs, improving competitiveness and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

Through the E2C2 campaign, the Renewable Energy Division continues to work with key sectors across Grenada to promote greater awareness and encourage practical action towards a more energy-efficient Grenada.

Powering a Sustainable Future, One Innovation at a Time!

Grenada continues to demonstrate that small island states can lead with bold, practical solutions for climate resilience and sustainable development.

The rooftop solar PV system with battery energy storage installed at a local school enables the facility to operate independently of the grid during power outages, providing reliable electricity for education while reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

At the same time, the introduction of an electric refrigerated Vehicle for Petite Martinique is strengthening the fisheries cold chain by providing clean, efficient transportation for fresh seafood. This innovation helps reduce post-harvest losses, improve product quality, lower operating costs as well as eliminate tailpipe emissions.

These initiatives showcase how renewable energy, energy storage, and electric mobility can work together to build energy resilience, support livelihoods, and accelerate Grenada's transition to energy security and a low-carbon future.

The Limlair Solar PV Farm, soon to be fully connected to the Grid in Carriacou

Building Local Capacity for the Operation & Maintenance of the Limlair Solar PV Plant in CARRIACOU.

Another important milestone has been achieved in the reconstruction of the Limlair Solar PV Plant in Carriacou, as the project advances towards full operation.

With construction of the facility now completed, the past week has focused on critical testing and commissioning activities to ensure that the reconstructed solar PV system is operating safely, efficiently and in accordance with the required technical standards.

These activities culminated in a comprehensive capacity development and technical training session conducted by Smart Energy, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor responsible for the reconstruction of the facility.

The training provided key stakeholders with practical knowledge and technical guidance on the operation, monitoring and maintenance of the solar PV plant, helping to strengthen local capacity for the effective and sustainable management of this important renewable energy asset.

Representatives participating in the training included: GRENLEC, Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable ENERGY, Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique AFFAIRS and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.

The completion of construction, together with ongoing testing, commissioning and stakeholder training, represents a significant step towards the return of the Limlair Solar PV Plant to full operation following the extensive damage sustained during Hurricane Beryl in 2024.

The reconstructed facility will play an important role in increasing renewable energy generation in Carriacou, reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels and strengthening the resilience of the island’s electricity system.
