35 years ago, the Government of Romania recognized ”the re-establishment of the Georgian independence” being the first country to do so.

The document expressed the wish of Romania to develop the bilateral relations. The decision was announced both by the Ministerul Afacerilor Externe/ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Romania and by the Romanian Embassy in the still existing USSR.

We attached the statement of the Romanian Government and the letter of President Gamsakhurdia by which he acknowledged the recognition.

În noaptea de 7 spre 8 august 2008, Rusia a atacat Georgia, în primul război european din secolul XXI.
Războiul a avut ca rezultat, sute de morți, cel puțin 180.000 de refugiați.
Uniunea Europeană a mediat acordul de încetare a focului la data de 12 august, niciodată respectat de Rusia.
În fiecare an, reprezentanții corpului diplomatic aduc un omagiu memoriei soldaților georgieni căzuți pentru apărarea patriei lor.
România, primul stat care a recunoscut restabilirea independenței Georgiei în 1991, susține suveranitatea și integritatea teritorială a Georgiei.

On the night of August 7-8, 2008, Russia attacked Georgia, in the first European war of the 21st century.
The war resulted in hundreds of deaths and at least 180,000 refugees.
The European Union brokered a ceasefire agreement on August 12, which Russia never respected.
Every year, representatives of the diplomatic corps pay tribute to the memory of the Georgian soldiers who fell defending their homeland.
Romania, the first state to recognize the restoration of Georgia's independence in 1991, supports Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania summoned today the Ambassador of Russian Federation.

The summons came as reaction to the repeated violations of Romania's airspace from July 24-26, 2026, during which the Romanian Army shot down three drones that had entered the national territory without authorization.

The Russian diplomat was presented with fragments of the drone destroyed on Romanian territory, officially confirmed to be of Russian origin.

The Romanian side highlighted that the Russian Federation bears exclusive responsibility for all these serious incidents and for the deterioration of the regional security environment.

During the meeting, the Russian Ambassador was officially handed the Note Verbale by which the Romanian side notified the application of the declaration of a member of the Russian Federation mission in Bucharest as unacceptable, with the obligation to leave the territory of Romania within 5 days.

The MFA also summoned the Romanian Ambassador to the Russian Federation to Bucharest for consultations.

Romania will continue to closely coordinate its response with allies and partners within NATO and the EU and remains firmly committed to adopting all necessary measures to protect national security and its citizens.

Drone Neutralized by Romanian Air Force Pilot in National Airspace

🇷🇴Piloții noștri au doborât o dronă intrată în spațiul aerian românesc!

În această dimineață, la 11:02, un pilot român, aflat la manșa unei aeronave de luptă F-16 a Forțelor Aeriene Române, a doborât o dronă intrată în spațiul aerian al României.

Drona a fost doborâtă deasupra unei zone nelocuite, în apropiere de localitatea Padina, județul Buzău.
