Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi has handed over responsibility as Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) to Commodore James Agambire in a brief ceremony at the School of Maritime Operations Auditorium in Nutekpor.

In his farewell speech, Commodore Asiedu-Larbi thanked God, the Military High Command and staff for their support during his tenure. He expressed appreciation for his reassignment as FOC Eastern Naval Command and encouraged his successor to remain confident in his leadership.

Commodore Agambire, in his acceptance remarks, requested the continued support of personnel. He promised to build on the achievements of his predecessors and work towards advancing the Command to greater heights.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku, and the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 4 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Sarfo Kantanka Dapaah, have commissioned a recreational centre named Amponsem-Boateng for personnel at Complex Barracks.

The GOC expressed his gratitude to the CO and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the facility. He noted that the gym meets the physical needs of personnel and urged them to utilise its offerings fully.

Lieutenant Colonel Dapaah said the facility has been named after the late Lieutenant Colonel Richard Amponsem-Boateng, for nurturing the idea. The facility has guards' accommodation, junior ranks’ anteroom, a bar, an upper terrace for social events and a modern gymnasium.

Five newly Commissioned Officers have commenced a 2-week orientation cadre at 3 Infantry Battalion, Liberation Barracks Sunyani.

The cadre covers physical training, message writing, duties of an Officer and rules of engagement among others to help the young Officers in their respective duties.

The Commanding Officer, 3 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Kofi Appau in his welcome remarks congratulated the Young Officers on their success in commissioning into the Army. He encouraged them to work diligently to uphold the standards of the Unit and Ghana Armed Forces.

700 Ghanaian Contingent Personnel serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have been presented with the esteemed United Nations Peace Medal during a parade at the Battalion Headquarters in Bentiu.

The Force Commander for UNMISS, Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, who was the Guest of Honour, expressed deep appreciation to the Ghanaian government and its people for their immense contribution to UN peacekeeping. He commended previous and current battalions for protecting civilians in South Sudan.

He also commended GHANBATT for outstanding coordination in flood mitigation within their Area of Responsibility and praised their Civil-Military Cooperation and humanitarian efforts which have advanced the UN’s goal for facilitating humanitarian aid.

The United States (US) Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer, has donated 14 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) on behalf of the US government to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at the 153 Armoured Regiment, Abuga Square in Burma Camp.

Her Excellency Palmer, in her remarks, underscored the importance of safeguarding Ghana’s northern border, given the evolving security challenges in the region. She reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Ghana in enhancing its defence capabilities through sustained partnerships, capacity-building initiatives and the provision of critical resources.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for Defence, Honourable Dr Edward Omane Boamah, uttered profound gratitude to the United States Government and its citizens for their generous support in promoting regional and global peace. He reiterated Ghana’s commitment to maintain the donated vehicles.

Brigadier General Asare reflected on his tenure as the 27th GOC, highlighting improvements and high operational readiness achieved. He praised the troops for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to maintain excellence and continue to strive for success in all missions.

Brigadier General Paintsil commended his predecessor for his leadership and mentorship, calling for increased loyalty and professionalism among staff and troops. The ceremony included briefings, a special quarter guard, personal interactions, and a tour of the headquarters, marking a smooth transition of command.

The Commander, Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Stephen Woseadzikpo Kweku Parbey has commended troops for their high level of discipline, teamwork and resilience during a 6-day intensive field training code-named Exercise Final Drive.
The exercise, held at Shai Osudoku, aimed at improving tactical proficiency and troop operational readiness in a simulated combat environment while testing leadership, coordination and live-fire skills through offensive and defensive operations.

The training forms part of efforts to ensure junior officers are combat-ready and well-equipped to assume leadership roles in the Ghana Armed Forces. It brought together trainees from the Combat Team Commanders Course, Young Officers Course, Advance Non-Commissioned Officers Tactical Course, Advance Mortar Course, Advance Medium Machine Gun Course and Advance Platoon Weapon Course.

The 11 Mechanised Battalion of the Ghana Army has, on Thursday 1 May 2025, observed International Labour Day with an endurance walk and recreational activities in Bolgatanga.

The event, which began at the Unit’s Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCO) Mess, was led by the Commander Rear, Lieutenant Colonel Kakra Sasu-Antwi. It featured a 20-kilometre walk that took participants from the unit's recreational grounds through the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital Roundabout to the Jubilee Park and back.

The endurance walk formed part of the unit’s routine physical training programme aimed at enhancing the fitness and combat readiness of officers and soldiers.

Lt Col Sasu-Antwi took the opportunity to congratulate personnel for their job output over the period and encouraged them to give out their best at all times.

The Physical Training School has held a closing ceremony for the Advance Physical Training Instructors Course 49 at Whistler Barracks, Teshie for fifty-nine students from various security services.

The 15-week intensive training programme was to upgrade the physical fitness of participants as well as equip them with leadership skills.

The course covered topics such as anatomy, first aid, vaulting, agility, and rules of sport, to equip graduates with physical training skills and discipline.

As part of the ceremony, students demonstrated skills in obstacle crossing and casualty evacuation, followed by captivating gymnastics display.

The Special Guest of Honour, Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon kofi Adams emphasised the role of security services in national sports development and announced plans to renovate El-Wak Stadium.

The Guest of Honour, Deputy Commandant Training and Doctrine Command, Commodore Prosper Modey urged graduating instructors to maintain fitness levels and lead pragmatic training programmes in their respective units.

The 1 Infantry Battalion has conducted a demonstration of “Battalion Headquarters in the Field” for cadets of Ghana Military Academy Regular Career Course Intake 64.

Commanding Officer of 1BN, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Adams emphasised the crucial role of Battalion Headquarters, describing it as the hub for addressing security threats. He said the exercise would help cadets understand the structure and function of a Battalion Headquarters.

Cadets learned about command posts, battalion appointments, tactical principles, and layout. They also observed weapon displays, toured deployment sites, and participated in realistic combat simulations to gain practical exposure and adapt to the challenges of real battlefield conditions.
