SOUTHERN COMMAND HOLDS EX FIRE STORM AT TESHIE GALLERY RANGE
Southern Command's two-day inter-unit shooting competition code named โEx Fire Stormโ was held at the Teshie Gallery Range on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 August 2022.
The annual event, conducted for units under Southern Command is aimed at intensifying the weapon training and handling skills among troops, fostering cooperation, promoting competition and esprit de corps as well as encouraging young soldiers to improve on their marksmanship skills.
It was also to enable Southern Command raise a formidable team as part of preparations towards the Ghana Army Inter-Commands and Formations shooting competition code named โEx Thunderboltโ slated for later this year.
The participating units - 1, 2 and 5 Battalions of Infantry, 66 Artillery Regiment, 48 Engineer Regiment and Camp Southern Command competed in M16 standard rifle firing, M16 carbine for SMG practice and Pistol firing from various distances and firing positions.
After two days of keen contest, 2 Infantry Battalion was adjudged overall best team for this yearโs โEx Fire Stormโ, while Camp Southern Command and 5 Infantry Battalion came in as first and second runners up respectively. 1 Infantry Battalion, 66 Artillery Regiment and 48 Engineers Regiment came in 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command (S/COMD), Brig Gen Michael Ayisi Amoah reiterated his vision to produce a highly motivated, well trained and well equipped Army with quality officers and soldiers to achieve the task of the Army.
The COAS stressed that this vision cannot be achieved without vigorous training and competitions such as โEx Fire Stormโ to test and improve the marksmanship skills and mental toughness of troops which largely elicits the desired qualities necessary to deal with existing and emerging security threats...
