Ghana And Jamaica Advance a Shared Vision for the Future

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, during her official visit to Ghana.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Ghana and Jamaica to further strengthen and deepen the longstanding bonds of friendship, cooperation, and common heritage that unite the two sister nations. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for increased collaboration in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both peoples.

The engagement reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Ghana and Jamaica, reflecting a relationship rooted in history, culture, and a shared aspiration for sustainable growth and development.

The Jamaican High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, is pleased to invite the Jamaican diaspora community to a Virtual Diaspora Town Hall for Africa on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. This important engagement will bring together key voices from Jamaica’s diplomatic and government leadership for a meaningful exchange with the diaspora, including Honourable Alando Terrelonge, MP, JP, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; H.E. Joan Thomas Edwards, CD, High Commissioner of Jamaica to the Republic of South Africa; and H.E. Lincoln Downer, High Commissioner of Jamaica to the Republic of Nigeria.

On 17 February 2026, the Honorary Consul of Jamaica to Ghana, Okatakyie Boakye Danquah Ababio, received a courtesy call from Mr. Osama Makkawi Khogali, Representative of the UNICEF Ghana Country Office.

The meeting focused on fostering deeper south–south cooperation between Ghana and Jamaica, with particular emphasis on education and child-rights programming. Discussions highlighted UNICEF Ghana’s impactful initiatives — including differentiated learning, play-based teaching, and teacher training — and explored how these models could support Jamaican education.

The visit concluded on a cordial note, with the Honorary Consul presenting Mr. Khogali with a Jamaica friendship pin, symbolizing continued goodwill and strengthened collaboration between Jamaica and UNICEF Ghana.
