🚨 PROPAGANDA OVER PREVENTION: Mahama's Flood Playbook 🚨
While Ghanaians were drowning in Accra, Volta and Central Region on June 28–29, this NDC government moved fast on one thing, press releases.
GH¢300 million announced. Then "topped up" to GH¢350 million. A task force launched. Soldiers deployed for the cameras.
But here's what they didn't tell you:
GARID ;the $350 MILLION World Bank flood prevention project meant to fix exactly this problem has been quietly starved by their own Finance Ministry.
The facts, on record:
📌 In May 2026, the World Bank downgraded GARID's rating to "Moderately Unsatisfactory" not for lack of money, but because Finance capped disbursements and swept GH¢13.8 million OUT of the project's account, leaving contractors unpaid.
📌 A $7 million Flood Early Warning System , bought years ago, still isn't switched on.
📌 16% of Accra's legally protected drainage buffer zones have been lost to encroachment, with zero enforcement.
So when the cameras are rolling, government finds GH¢350 million overnight. But when nobody's watching, they can't keep a real flood-prevention project funded.
That's not disaster response. That's disaster management as a PR strategy , spend big and visible AFTER the damage, starve the quiet infrastructure that could have stopped it.
Ghanaians don't need another task force photo-op. We need GARID funded. We need the warning system switched on. We need buffer zones enforced. **Before** the next flood ,not after.
