The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) has conducted a 5-day day Field Training Exercise (FTX) dubbed ‘Exercise Main Chance’, to train Army Cadets of Regular Career Course 64 at Akuse-Asutuare.
The Acting Commandant, GMA Brigadier General Cornelius Kobla Lithur, who visited the cadets, said the training would enhance Cadets physical fitness and combat skills. He added that the experience gained from the exercise would contribute to the operational readiness of Cadets.
Brigadier General Cornelius Kobla Lithur congratulated cadets for successfully going through a vital part of their career training course, and commended the instructors for their dedication.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brigadier General Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, undertook a familiarisation tour of Headquarters Southern Command (Camp) at Kpeshie Ridge on Tuesday 24 June 2025.

The visit formed part of the GOC’s scheduled operational visits to all Units and Forward Operating Bases within the Southern Command Area of Operational Responsibility.
The tour commenced with the inspection of a smartly turned-out Quarter Guard by personnel of the Unit, after which the GOC was ushered into the conference room for a thorough briefing on the administrative, operational, and logistical state of the Camp.

The Commanding Officer (CO), Headquarters Southern Command Camp, Lieutenant Colonel William Opoku, during the briefing, outlined the various tasks and deployments of the Unit over the period. He also enumerated some challenges faced by the Camp, including inadequate personnel strength, unstable power voltage in parts of the Camp, accommodation deficits, and varying levels of wear and tear in some of the Unit’s infrastructure.

The General Officer Commanding, Brigadier General Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, was then taken on a tour of the facilities within the Camp, during which deliberations were held among the Staff Officers to identify and propose solutions to the challenges observed.

At a durbar with all ranks of the Unit, Brigadier General Paintsil entreated Officers, Soldiers, and Defence Civilian Staff to desist from acts that could bring the hard-earned reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces into disrepute. He urged all personnel to remain disciplined and work diligently to continually uphold the image of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He further encouraged troops to take self-development seriously by undertaking all mandatory military courses, and by taking advantage of civil educational opportunities to upgrade their knowledge particularly through the use of modern technological platforms.

The Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB) Headquarters in Burma Camp has received two military working dogs from the Austrian Armed Forces during a ceremony held on Tuesday 24 June 2025.

In his address, the Austrian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Jurgen Heissel, described the donation as a significant gesture symbolising the strong mutual commitment to enhancing the security and operational capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). He emphasised that special forces dogs are invaluable assets in modern military operations due to their exceptional abilities in detecting explosives, tracking adversaries, and providing protection, making them critical to any comprehensive security strategy.

Ambassador Heissel further noted that the dog handlers and trainers had undergone three months of rigorous training in Austria, during which they demonstrated exceptional proficiency and reliability in the field. He stated that the training had undoubtedly enhance the operational effectiveness of the GAF and contribute to strengthening security and resilience along Ghana’s borders.

He noted that as part of the collaboration, four expertly trained dog handlers and military working dogs were handed over to ASOB in mid-2023, adding that the latest donation forms part of a broader cooperation framework that includes comprehensive training and capacity-building programmes for Ghanaian dog handlers and trainers.

The Guest of Honour, Deputy Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Samuel Stanley Narnor Mezo, remarked that the initial donation marked a significant step in the growing partnership between the two countries. He explained that the newly acquired canines would not only boost the operational readiness of the Special Operations Brigade but also significantly improve troop safety and mission effectiveness. He described the gesture as timely to enable ASOB develop its Tier 1 and Tier 2 capabilities to counter both domestic and cross-border threats.

Brigadier General Mezo also underscored the importance of the specialised training in detection and tactical operations, noting that it complements the Brigade’s efforts to operationalise the Special Operations Training School in Daboya. The Commander of the Army Special Operations Brigade, Brigadier General Richard Mensah, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Austrian government, the Austrian Armed Forces, and all stakeholders involved in the initiative. He stated that the addition of these dogs reflects a shared commitment to advancing peace and security

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong has demonstrated commitment to the welfare of Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) by donating to the Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital (GAFCCEH) on Friday 20 June 2025 at Burma Camp.
The Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Joshua Mensah-Larkai made the donation on behalf of the CDS. The donation comprised 5 units of 5 Horse Power air conditioners,5 units of 1.5 Horse Power air conditioners and an undisclosed amount of money.
AVM Mensah-Larkai stated that the donation was as a result of an initial visit by the CDS to the Emergency Hospital during a nurses' strike. During that visit, the CDS identified some challenges and pledged his support to address them, resulting in this donation.
He commended the medical staff of the facility for their unwavering dedication to providing quality healthcare to GAF personnel and the general public, even during the strike period. He reiterated higher command's continuous support for the facility.
The Commander of GAFCCEH, Brigadier General Thomas Gbireh, received the air conditioners on behalf of the hospital and expressed profound gratitude for the timely gesture. He assured higher command that the hospital would continue to play its role in saving lives and delivering quality healthcare to all patients. He also revealed that the hospital's blood bank would soon be operational.
