As part of efforts to formalize the small-scale and artisanal mining sector, a joint team of rCOMSDEP, Minerals Commission and EPA officials are currently on the ground nationwide registering miners. Only a valid Ghana Card and phone number are required.

Registered miners will be organized into cooperatives of no fewer than 10 members and relocated to designated viable sites for mining. A temporary mining permit will be secured for them at no cost.

We encourage all eligible miners to participate in building a safer and more sustainable sector.

The registration of small-scale and artisanal miners has officially commenced in the Western and Western North Regions. This initiative will be extended to all mining regions in the coming days.

Registered miners will undergo training focused on environmental protection and safety standards. Upon completion, they will be grouped into cooperatives and they will be allocated designated mining sites and issued a six-month temporary mining permit.

Additionally, investors will be engaged to provide the necessary financial support to ensure the sustainability and success of this initiative.

This programme reflects Government’s commitment to responsible mining, environmental stewardship, and the formalization of the small-scale mining sector.

Unlike the Community Mining Initiative, the Cooperative Mining Programme introduces a structured revenue-sharing mechanism that ensures host communities directly benefit from mining activities.

GOVERNMENT COMMENCES NATIONWIDE REGISTRATION OF SMALL-SCALE MINERS UNDER RCOMSDEP.

rCOMSDEP, in collaboration with the Minerals Commission and the Ghana Geological Survey Authority, will demarcate viable lands to certified cooperative miners for mining activities.

This initiative is a deliberate step to bring greater order and responsibility to the sector, while protecting our environment and communities. By clearly identifying approved areas for mining, we aim to curb the indiscriminate destruction of forests, safeguard our water bodies, and prevent encroachment on residential areas.

In addition, as part of efforts to curb gold smuggling and promote transparency within the sector, all gold produced will be sold through Goldbod.
