Continue To Exhibit Your Readiness To Pay The Ultimate Sacrifice – CDS To Muslims

Jul 21, 2021

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama has adviced Muslims to continue to exhibit their readiness to pay the ultimate sacrifice through prayer in defence of the nation and to promote peace, stability and security.

Vice Admiral Amoama made these remarks in a speech read on his behalf by the 5 Infantry Battalion Imam Lt Imam Shuaib Toure during the celebration of this year’s Eid-Ul-Adha festival at the Al-Aziz Central Mosque on Tuesday, 20 July, 2021.

He added that the lessons of the Eid should never be lost on Muslims in uniform as professional soldiers urging all Muslims to let the celebration strengthen their resolve to stay alert to the tenets the military profession.

Vice Admiral Amoama entreated Muslims to continuously pray for troops in the various peacekeeping operations all over the world contributing to international peace and security.

The Acting Chief Imam of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Capt Imam Alhassan Mohammed in a sermon on the theme, “Sacrifice, a means to renewal of patriotism”, adviced Muslims to honestly repent and amend their ways in conformity with the teachings of Islam. He expressed worry about the attitudes of some Muslims that are causing great harm to Islam. “Whereas many are trying to live by the ideas of faith, others are using it as a means of exploitation”. He said.

Capt Imam Alhassan implored Muslims to eschew the use of intemperate language in the form of insults, vile criticisms and self-interest. He also appealed to Muslim parents to ensure good upbringing of their children and offer them extensive Islamic education.

Present at the celebrations were the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, Provost Marshal and Chairman of the Al-Aziz Mosque, Colonel Ziblim Ayorrogo and other Senior Officers.

Army recruitment: Thousands of Ghanaians on Monday, July 19, 2021, thronged the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra to participate in the documentation and medical screening process for recruitment into the Ghana Army.

These people, according to the Commanding Officer for the 5th Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Prince Tandoh, include Senior High School graduates, and degree and diploma holders.

The screening process, which began as early as 7.00 am on Monday, will end on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Some applicants had been at the stadium as early as 5:00 am.

The Army is looking at recruiting about 1,000 persons who will take an aptitude test in the next stage of recruitment.

Lt Col. Tandoh said the military had done their best to adhere to coronavirus safety protocols.

“Only those with print-out forms will be allowed to come in, and you can also see that we have sanitisers and veronica buckets around, so we are doing our best to maintain the protocols.”

Some persons who took part in the process say, although it has been stressful, they are hopeful of being among the few to be recruited.

“As I entered, I felt pressure because the people here were too many. I did not even expect to finish early,” one of the applicants said.
