Dzorwulu Footbridge Repair Works

Repair works on the Dzorwulu Footbridge will commence this Saturday, 18th April 2026.

Here's what you need to know:

🕗 Traffic diversion begins: Saturday, 18 April at 8:00 PM.

📍 Affected route: N1 (Tema-bound) near the Nogahil Footbridge

🔀 Diversion route: Via Abelenkpe Junction – 37 Road at the Dimples Interchange

✅ Road reopens: Sunday, 19 April, at 5:00 AM.

Plan your route ahead and allow extra travel time this weekend.
Motorists are advised to use the bridge with caution once it reopens.

The Ghana Highway Authority wishes to inform the public that an emergency inspection was conducted on the Dzorwulu Footbridge in February 2026, following an incident involving a lowbed truck transporting heavy equipment, which struck the bridge structure.

The inspection carried out by the Bridge Maintenance Unit confirmed that the footbridge sustained minimal structural damage which resulted in a slight shift of the super structure.
While the bridge has not collapsed, the damage poses potential safety risks to both pedestrians and motorists if immediate action is not taken.

As a precautionary measure, the Ghana Highway Authority will implement controlled access to the bridge while urgent repair works are undertaken. Key interventions will include structural repairs to the damaged sections, rehabilitation of the walking surface, and strengthening of safety components such as handrails.
The repair work is scheduled to be completed within a week, from 17th April, 2026 – 24th April, 2026, to minimize disruption to traffic flow.

Additionally, measures are being introduced to prevent future incidents, including the installation of height restriction signage and improved monitoring of over-height vehicles.

The Ghana Highway Authority assures the public of its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure and urges all road users to adhere to traffic regulations, especially those relating to vehicle height restrictions.

Hon. Minister Tours Major “Big Push” Projects in Greater Accra

The Hon. Minister, Kwame Agbodza Governs, together with a high-powered delegation of officials from the ministry and its agencies, on Tuesday, 31st March 2026 embarked on an inspection tour of four key infrastructure projects under Government’s flagship “Big Push” agenda in the Greater Accra Region.

3. Inspection of Dodowa-Afienya- Dawhenya Road project
4. Inspection of Adenta – Dodowa Road project

Day 2: More Progress at Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Expansion Project

Work on the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Expansion Project continues to gather momentum as three additional T-Beams were successfully launched on Day 2, (Sunday,15th March,2026) marking steady progress in the bridge expansion works along the N1 Highway.

The T beam launching operation forms a critical phase of the project and is being executed with precision by the contractor and project consultants, under the close supervision of Engineers from the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA).

Earlier in the day, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza (MP) paid an unannounced visit to the project site to observe progress and interact with engineers and project teams working tirelessly to deliver the project.

The Minister commended the teams on site for their dedication and encouraged them to maintain the high standards being demonstrated in the ex*****on of the works.

The Public Affairs Division of the Ghana Highway Authority continues to play a critical role in keeping motorists and the public informed about the project, including the temporary traffic management arrangements put in place to ensure safety during the beam launching operations.

The Ghana Highway Authority appreciates the cooperation of motorists and the public as work continues to improve traffic flow and mobility along this important corridor.

T-Beam Launching Begins at Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Expansion Project, Sat, 14th March 2026

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has successfully commenced the launching of T-Beams at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange as part of the ongoing expansion of the bridge along the N1 Highway.

The launching of the first 3 beams, Saturday 14th March,2026, marks a major construction milestone in the project, which is designed to increase the capacity of the interchange, reduce congestion and improve traffic flow along one of Accra’s busiest corridors connecting Accra, Madina and the George Bush Highway.

Engineers from the Ghana Highway Authority, working closely with the project consultants and contractors, supervised the delicate lifting and positioning of the massive concrete beams using specialized launching equipment.

The Authority acknowledges the consultants and contractors for their professionalism and technical precision in executing the operation safely and efficiently.

The Public Affairs Division of GHA has also been actively communicating project updates and temporary traffic arrangements to motorists and the public to ensure minimal inconvenience during construction works.

Motorists are advised to cooperate with traffic management measures, observe road signs and consider alternative routes as published by the authority.
The Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Expansion Project remains a key intervention aimed at improving mobility and reducing travel time for thousands of commuters who use the corridor daily.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ARRANGEMENT

The Ghana Highway Authority, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, wishes to inform the public and all road users of an upcoming traffic management arrangement as part of the ongoing construction works on the Accra–Tema Motorway and Extension Projects.

This arrangement is necessary to facilitate the T-beam launching works for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge (N1).

During this period, lanes on the N4 Northbound Carriageway (Accra to Madina direction) will be temporarily closed. Meanwhile, the Southbound Carriageway (Madina to Accra direction), which currently comprises four (4) lanes, will be reconfigured into two (2) lanes in each direction to accommodate traffic flow from Accra to Madina and vice versa.

This temporary traffic adjustment will take effect from Monday, 9th March 2026 and is expected to last for a period of four (4) months. The lane reduction is essential to provide a safe working environment for construction personnel and to ensure the continued safety of all road users.

Motorists are kindly advised to exercise caution, observe all traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the duration of the works.
