A high-powered security delegation led by the
Minister for National Security, Hon Albert Kan-Dapaah and
comprising the Upper East Regional Minister and Head of the
Regional Security Council, Hon Stephen Yakubu, the Deputy
National Security Coordinator, Hon Edward Kwaku Asomani.
Chief of the Army Staff, Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah and
the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson, visited the
11 Mechanised Battalion Area of Operation including Bawku and
Mognori Detachments in the Upper East Region on Thursday, 2
June 2022.
The visit was necessitated by the emerging threats of terrorism
along the northern frontiers of the country and the national
efforts to ward off these terrorists.
To this end, the delegation visited Pulmakom Detachment to
ascertain at first hand, the bare facts as regards force
protection, boundary issues with neighboring countries and the
total welfare of troops.
In a Durbar with troops, the Minister commended the Soldiers
for the good work done so far, adding that personnel of the Unit
had stayed true to their constitutional mandate to protect the
territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ghana at all times.
He assured them of government's efforts to deliver the
necessary resources to enable them work effectively and
efficiently.
Hon Kan-Dapaah therefore encouraged them to remain
professional, hardworking and vigilant in order to continue to
protect the north eastern frontiers of the country.

Good works indeed deserve reward, and the military is reputed for
rewarding good and professional conduct. It is in this line, that the Chief Staff
Officer (CSO) AHQ, Brig Gen C Agyemang-Prempeh, on behalf of the Chief of
the Army Staff, Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah, has presented a plaque and a
medium size freezer to Madam Vida Amakwei who recently retired from the
headquarters as a Civilian Employee.
The SO said that Madam Amakwei served diligently as a clerical assistant for
42 years and High Command deemed it important to appreciate her.

This morning, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen
Thomas Oppong-Peprah interacted with personnel of UNMISS Ghanbatt 10 who
are undergoing pre-deployment training and concentration at the Army Peace
Operations Training School (APOTS), Bundase ahead of their insertion into the
operational area in Sudan. While there he was briefed by the Commander
APOTS, Col CK Dingaane on developments at the School and their schedule of
activities for the year. The COAS reminded the troops of his vision and called all
to abide by the strategy he has adopted to deliver his vision. He emphasized the
need to stay united as a force to be able to deliver their mandate effectively
whiles encouraging them to desist from acts that bring the name of the Armed
Forces into disrepute. He noted that the Ghana Armed Forces has excelled in
United Nations peace keeping operations over the years and urged them to
maintain this image. The COAS, also commissioned a mechanized borehole
facility and a renovated cook house. He also inspected other ongoing projects at
the school, Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah highly commended the Commanding
Officer. UNMISS GHANBATT 10. Lt Col Prince Tandoh for his sterling
leadership and foresight for working with Commander APOTS to deliver those
projects.

As part of the Chief of the Army Staff's operational
visit to Garrisons, the COAS, Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah
visited the Northern Command on Monday, 23 May 2022 to
ascertain the operational readiness and logistics state of Units
under command. During the visit, the COAS inspected ongoing
construction works at the 11 Mechanized Battalion Area of
Operation and addressed a durbar of Troops at the Mognori
Forward Operating Base, Bawku in the Upper East Region.
Maj Gen Oppong-Peprah with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice
Marshall Frank Hanson commissioned a new Forward Operating
Base at Tilli in the Bawku Municipality. At the Headquarters of the
Battalion in Bolgatanga, the CAS also commissioned a Badminton
Court and the Unit Band. In his speech, the COAS commended
personnel for their efforts at providing security in the Region while
reminding them to be extra vigilant and alert always because the
security threats were real and closer to them. He said, the Army
owed the country and it's citizens the duty of keeping them safe
and secured at all times.
The delegation included the General Officer Commanding Northern
Command, Brig Gen MM Aryee and Staff Officers from both the
Army Headquarters and the Northern Command Headquarters.

On Thursday, 19 May 2022, the Chief of the Army Staff, Maj Gen
Thomas Oppong- Peprah and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frank
Hanson paid a day's working visit to Foward Operating Bases, Dorkorkyina and
Bui to ascertain at first hand the current security situation at both camps and
their respective areas of operation. The visit was necessitated by the current
security situation in our neighboring countries and the need for the Ghana
Armed Forces to remain professional, robust and alert at all times.
At the Dorkorkyina Camp, the Chief of Air Staff was delighted at the pace of
work done in creating the new camp and was hopeful that work will continue at
the same pace to ensure early completion of the rest of the FOB. For his part,
the COAS thanked sincerely the Chief of Air staff and the whole of the Ghana
Airforce for their continuous and unflinching support to all Ghana Army
operations, exercises and events, without which the operations and exercises of
the Army would have been more Herculean and slow. He said there was the
need for all to remain united to achieve the tasks of the military quickly and
easily. The delegation then moved to construction site of FOB Bui to inspect
progress of work there. The Director health and safety of BPA met with the
team and assured the delegation of timely completion of the project.
After the tour of the site, the COAS intimated that, due to the security threats
in the sub region, it had become imperative for the project to be completed
quickly so that more troops could be deployed there to ensure the security of
the national assert and its environs against emerging threats.
With the Chiefs on their visits were the DCSO Logistics , Army Hq, Brig Gen
KK Kumi, the Chief G2 Army Hq, Col Salifu, the ASEC, Col B Pantoah, the SFC,
Lt Col M Nkrumah, the SPRO, Maj S Affanyi and the SMA, MWO Ansah

In the spirit of cooperation and appreciation, the Chief of the Army
Staff, Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah has commended the outgoing British
Defense Attache to Ghana, Lt Col Alastair McKechnie for his enormous
contribution to enhancing mutual cooperation between the British and Ghanaian
Armies. He particularly lauded Lt Col McKechnie for helping the Ghana Army to
build the capacity of troops through joint training, professional exchange
programs and procurement of logistics. Maj Gen Oppong-Peprah presented a
plaque and a painting to Lt Col McKechnie for being a worthy friend of the
Army. Lt Col McKechnie also presented a plaque to the COAS in appreciation for
his unflinching support during his tenure as DA. In the same light, the COAS
welcomed the incoming British Defense Attache, Commander Richard Walter and
encouraged him to build on what his predecessor had achieved.

This year's Army Officers Practical Promotion
exams ended successfully at Agogo in the Ashanti region. The
exams, which saw about 150 young officers participating from
all Units sought to further educate, inform and provide realistic
platforms for the officers to practice what they had learnt over
the years in the various training schools. The Chief of the Army
Staff, Maj Gen Thomas Oppong- Peprah visited the candidates
and Directing Staff at the exams Centre and admonished
candidates to take advantage of the exams to learn new trends
in security management. Further, he specially commended Lt
Kwofie from 4 Battalion of Infantry for his exemplary leadership
quality and determination to succeed despite sustaining a major
injury during the exams. He said, if all officers and soldiers strive
for excellence despite the difficulties they encounter in their line
of work, the Ghana Army will be the best with quality officers
and soldiers.
Candidates were examined on modern security challenge
scenarios involving four requirements for both
Lieutenants and Captains.
