ATU MAIDEN FLAG-RAISING CEREMONY IN HONOUR OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS, H.E KAISAMBA SAYS STUDYING IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY REQUIRES COURAGE, RESILIENCE, ADAPTABILITY, AND DETERMINATION.

The High Commissioner of Sierra Leone in Ghana, His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, during the first flag-raising ceremony, in honour of international students at the Accra Technical University, said that studying in a foreign country requires courage, resilience, adaptability, and determination.

He was speaking as the special guest of honour at the important and symbolic event.

According to High Commissioner Kaisamba, seeing the flags of many nations proudly displayed on one campus is both inspiring and reassuring, as each flag tells a unique story, history, culture, and a set of aspirations.

” Choosing to study outside your home country is not always easy, as you’ll leave behind familiar surroundings, family members, and friends in pursuit of education, personal growth, and opportunity.” H.E. Kaisamba continued.

He said the theme for the ceremony, dubbed as “Raising Flags, Building Bridges: Promoting International Understanding and Cultural Exchange,” speaks directly to the purpose of higher education in our modern world, adding that education is not merely about acquiring knowledge and professional skill, but broadening horizons, embracing diversity, and building meaningful connections across nations.

H.E. Kaisamba commended the Accra Technical University for instituting this ceremony, which he described as a visionary initiative that recognizes the richness of cultures and the value that international students bring to the university community.

Speaking on behalf of the international students of Accra Technical University was the president, Abdulai Daboh, who said the event was more than a ceremony and expressed gratitude to all invited dignitaries for gracing the maiden edition.

Daboh said that, as students far from their home countries, the presence of their country’s High Commission and Embassies makes them feel closer.

He encouraged his fellow students to be steadfast in pursuing their purpose at the university while thanking authorities for their hospitality and the knowledge that is being imparted to them.

The Vice Chancellor of the Accra Technical University, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, appreciated all the guests and students of the university.

He says the ATU remains an institution that caters for it's students no matter the country of origin.

He admonished them to keep their heads high, promote their cultures, and promote unity, always in the great continent of Africa.

The presence of the international students, and he said, adds spice to the university and enriches the classrooms with diverse cultures.

The program was wrapped up with the raising of flags of different countries such as Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Cote d'voir, Gambia, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.

6th ORDINARY SESSION OF MODEL ECOWAS SUMMIT, H.E. KAISAMBA CALLS ON YOUNG PEOPLE TO BUILD SOCIAL COHESION THAT WILL STRENGTHEN THE FUTURE OF AFRICA

Speaking as one of the guest speakers at the 6th Ordinary Session of the Model Ecowas Summit, High Commissioner Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba of the Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra, Ghana, commended the organizers for what he described as a brilliant initiative that discusses issues around young people.

He said it is important that young people of West Africa build social cohesion in order to strengthen the continent’s future, as social cohesion is not created by speeches alone.

According to H.E. Kaisamba, it is created when people choose understanding over hatred, dialogue over violence, and collaboration over division.

The theme of the summit, “Peace, Stability, and Social Cohesion: Unleashing the Power of Youth to Lead,” he furthered, could not be more timely or more important because presently across the continent, we are living through a period of profound uncertainty
With political tensions rising.

He mentioned that after Sierra Leone endured a devastating civil war that shattered communities, displaced families, and robbed an entire generation of stability and opportunity, Sierra Leone did not rebuild itself through miracles but through people, many of whom were the youth.

These young people refused to allow violence to define their destiny, chose reconciliation over revenge, and used education, community engagement, music, sport, advocacy, and entrepreneurship to rebuild trust where fear once existed

He concluded by urging participants to never underestimate the power of one determined young person and to put into practice what they acquire during the summit upon returning to their respective countries.

Delivering a good will message was Fatu Tarawally Esq, State counsel, Office of the President , who said the summit presented a unique opportunity to learn, engage, and exchange ideas that will positively shape West African countries and the ECOWAS region.

She said the knowledge, experiences, and networks gained from the summit must be carried back to their countries and translated into meaningful actions, while understanding that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but today.

The 6th Ordinary Session of the Model Ecowas Summit, held at the University of Ghana Medical Simulation Centre, brought together young people from several West African countries which includes, including Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, among others.

Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, serves as the special guest of Honour.

Among the participants from Sierra Leone were Benedict Samuel Richard Kwende, Mamad Sallieu Jalloh, Esther Nyallay Lahai, Elliasu Jalloh, and Ashley Thomas.
