Zoomlion Ghana Limited, in collaboration with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), has commenced a week-long disinfection and disinfestation exercise across all 15 municipalities and districts in the Upper East Region.

The exercise targets markets, schools, health facilities, public toilets, communal waste container sites, dumping grounds and drains to control disease vectors and reduce public health risks during the rainy season.

The intervention, being undertaken at no cost to beneficiary communities as part of Zoomlion’s Corporate Social Responsibility, reinforces the company’s commitment to cleaner, safer and healthier communities.

Residents have been urged to complement the exercise through proper waste disposal and good sanitation practices.

Zoomlion’s Nationwide Disinfection and Disinfestation Exercise Extends to Ashanti Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, in partnership with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), has extended its nationwide disinfestation and disinfection exercise to the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to protect public health and promote cleaner communities.

The exercise, which commenced on August 24, 2026, is targeting selected markets, schools, sanitation sites, public latrines and communities across Kumasi and the Oforikrom Municipality. The intervention is aimed at controlling mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and other disease-carrying pests, particularly in flood-affected areas and communities experiencing poor sanitation conditions.

The exercise forms part of Zoomlion’s broader efforts to support communities in preventing potential outbreaks of sanitation-related diseases following recent flooding and inundation. By reducing pest populations and sanitising high-risk public spaces, the initiative seeks to complement ongoing efforts by local authorities to safeguard public health.

Zoomlion officials urged residents, traders and other community members to support the exercise by maintaining good sanitation practices, including regular cleaning of their surroundings, proper disposal of waste and the removal of stagnant water, which serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

The company further encouraged residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining clean environments, stressing that sustained community participation is essential to building cleaner, safer and healthier communities beyond the period of the exercise.

Zoomlion Begins Disinfestation and Fumigation Exercise in Eastern Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has commenced a region-wide disinfestation and fumigation exercise across all 33 Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the Eastern Region. The exercise, which began on August 21, 2026, is scheduled to run until September 30, 2026.

The initiative, being implemented by Zoomlion’s Vector Control Unit in collaboration with the respective Assemblies, forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to support public health and sanitation, particularly in the wake of recent flooding in parts of the region.

The exercise is targeting markets, schools, lorry parks, public places of convenience, refuse container sites and other identified high-risk areas where disease vectors such as mosquitoes, flies and other pests may breed and thrive. The intervention is aimed at reducing vector populations and helping to minimise the risk of outbreaks of cholera, malaria, typhoid and other communicable diseases.

Speaking at the launch of the exercise at Agartha Market in Koforidua, Zoomlion’s Eastern Regional Manager, Cynthia Gbadago, called on residents and market users to complement the exercise by maintaining high standards of environmental sanitation.

She urged the public to dispose of waste responsibly, avoid indiscriminate dumping and keep their surroundings clean to prevent the creation of breeding grounds for disease-carrying insects and other pests.

The exercise underscores Zoomlion’s continued commitment to supporting local authorities and communities in safeguarding public health, promoting environmental sanitation and creating cleaner, healthier and safer communities across the Eastern Region.

Zoomlion Disinfects Public Facilities Across Central Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has commenced an eight-day disinfection and disinfestation exercise across selected public facilities in all 22 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central Region.

The exercise, which began on August 20, 2026, is being undertaken in collaboration with the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) and the various District Assemblies. It forms part of efforts to mitigate public health risks associated with recent flooding and its aftermath.

The intervention is targeting key public and high-traffic areas, including markets, schools, health facilities, public latrines, refuse container sites, dumpsites and other public spaces. The exercise is expected to help reduce environmental contamination, control disease-carrying vectors and minimise the risk of outbreaks of flood-related diseases such as cholera, typhoid and malaria.

Central Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Mr. Noah Addo Opey, said the exercise was necessary to complement ongoing efforts by government and local authorities to protect public health and restore environmental safety in communities affected by the floods.

According to him, the disinfection and disinfestation exercise would help eliminate harmful microorganisms and disease vectors that could thrive in areas where stagnant water, accumulated waste and other unsanitary conditions had been created by the floods.

Mr. Opey urged residents to support the exercise by maintaining high standards of personal and environmental hygiene, disposing of waste responsibly and avoiding indiscriminate dumping. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with spraying teams and follow safety instructions during the exercise.

The Central Regional Coordinating Council and the various local authorities have welcomed the intervention, describing it as a timely and important measure to safeguard public health, control disease vectors and promote cleaner and safer communities across the region.

The exercise is expected to further strengthen post-flood sanitation efforts and support the restoration of healthy environmental conditions in affected communities throughout the Central Region.

The initiative is aimed at supporting the national emergency response to public health risks arising from the recent floods and inundations. By treating affected and high-risk areas, we seek to reduce the spread of disease vectors and help prevent potential outbreaks of cholera, typhoid, malaria, and other water- and vector-borne diseases.

The exercise demonstrates our commitment to protecting public health, promoting environmental sanitation, and supporting communities during times of emergency. It also reinforces our resolve to work with relevant stakeholders to create safer, cleaner, and healthier environments for all.

Rev. Dr. Ing. Glenn K. Gyimah, General Manager of the Jospong Green Transition Office, has stated that Ghana’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), framework is within reach, with the private sector poised to drive implementation.

Speaking at the National Dialogue on Plastic Waste Management organized by Joy News and IMANI Policy and Education Center, Dr. Gyimah said Jospong Group of Companies and Zoomlion’s national presence in all MMDAs, coupled with facilities like Accra Compost And Recycling Plant (ACARP), KCARP - Kumasi Compost & Recycling Plant Limited and the other 34 IRECOPs in every regional capital, provides the infrastructure needed for nationwide plastic waste collection.

He outlined 3 critical pathways: leveraging existing national networks, deploying digital traceability systems, and establishing sustainable fee structures to incentivize investment. “With policy alignment, we can move from dialogue to action and build a commercially viable circular economy,” he added.

The Managing Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Madam Doris Kweikwor Adjei, met with the company’s Volta Regional Team and paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.

On behalf of the Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong Madam Doris expressed sincere appreciation to Hon. Gunu, who also serves as Dean of Regional Ministers in Ghana, for his continued support for the Zoomlion Ghana brand and its environmental sanitation initiatives.

Discussions focused on strengthening strategic partnerships, enhancing service delivery, and advancing a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and community development across the Volta Region.

Hon. Gunu reaffirmed the importance of the longstanding partnership between the Government of Ghana and Zoomlion Ghana Limited. He noted that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) largely perform supervisory functions and currently face limitations in the technical personnel, expertise, logistics, and equipment required to independently manage waste effectively at the district level. He therefore emphasised the critical role of effective public-private partnerships in ensuring efficient and sustainable sanitation service delivery nationwide.

The Regional Minister further pledged his commitment to working closely with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and other key stakeholders to promote cleaner communities, strengthen waste management systems, and improve environmental sanitation throughout the Volta Region.
