International Literacy Day 2026 in Lamashegu, Tamale! Under the theme "Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity" and sub-theme "Building a Reading Ghana," GhLA joined BookAid International and the Naa Bapri Lamashe Naa, Paramount Chief of Lamashegu, alongside students, teachers, and community members to celebrate literacy's power to transform lives.

In his keynote, the Executive Director, Mr. Ziblim Alhassan Betintiche, reminded us that literacy is "the true foundation on which people, planet and prosperity stand.

He also paid tribute to our partners at Book Aid International, whose support continues to place quality reading material into the hands of Ghanaians who need it most.

The Paramount Chief of Lamashegu Naa Bapri Lamashe Naa, in his remarks advised parents to encourage their children to make full use of the books donated by Book Aid International, and expressed hope that more of such programs and initiatives become a common practice in Lamashegu.

GhLA Delegation Pays Courtesy Visit to Ghana Embassy in Madrid

The delegation from the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), led by the Executive Director, Mr. Ziblim Alhassan Betintiche, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of Ghana in Madrid, Spain, as part of their official engagement in the country.

The delegation was warmly received by H.E. Mrs. Kulsoume Sinare Baffoe, Ambassador of Ghana to Spain.

The visit provided an opportunity for the GhLA delegation to engage with the Embassy and strengthen institutional relations while sharing insights into the Authority’s work and its efforts to advance library and information services in Ghana.

Ghana Library Authority Participates in 2026 ISBN & ISMN Annual General Meeting in Madrid

A delegation from the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), led by the Executive Director, Mr. Ziblim Alhassan Betintiche, participated in the 2026 ISBN and ISMN Annual General Meeting in Madrid, Spain.

The annual meeting brings together stakeholders from across the global publishing, library and information sectors to discuss developments, standards and emerging issues shaping the identification and management of books, publications and musical scores.

Ghana’s participation reinforces the Ghana Library Authority’s commitment to strengthening collaboration, advancing international standards, and contributing to conversations that support the growth and development of Ghana’s publishing and information ecosystem.

The delegation from the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), led by the Executive Director, Mr. Ziblim Alhassan Betintiche, paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Embassy in France during their official visit to Paris.

The delegation from the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) participated in insightful sessions at the UNESCO Digital Learning Week in Paris, France.

Today’s sessions explored mainstreaming AI-enabled education and Gateways to Digital Learning, with discussions on how technology and AI can improve access to quality learning, strengthen digital inclusion and support education systems.

For GhLA, the sessions provided insights into how we can further leverage digital technologies, AI and our library network to expand access to learning opportunities, strengthen digital and AI literacy, and better support learners, educators and communities across Ghana.

A delegation from the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), led by the Executive Director, participated in the UNESCO Digital Learning Week in Paris, France, which explored the theme “Education in the Age of AI.”

The discussions highlighted the evolving role of teachers, responsible use of AI, personalised learning, and the need for education systems to equip learners with the skills to navigate an AI-driven world.

Speaking from Ghana’s perspective, Professor Osman Tahidu Damba, Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, shared insights on the role of teachers in shaping the use of AI in Ghana and policies supporting teachers to effectively integrate AI into education.

For GhLA, the conversations provide valuable lessons on how we can strengthen our library services by expanding AI and digital literacy, supporting teachers and learners with reliable learning resources, promoting critical evaluation of information, and using technology to create more personalised learning opportunities across our libraries.

AI should not replace learning, it should help us make learning more accessible, inclusive and effective. 📚🤖🇬🇭

Yesterday, the Ghana Library Authority joined Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana and other development partners to commission a new library at the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, creating a welcoming space where children undergoing cancer treatment can continue to learn, read, play and dream.

The Authority donated books to help stock the new library and make the space a rich and engaging environment for the children.

During the ceremony, some of the children took part in creative activities, including painting, providing them with an opportunity to express themselves, have fun and simply enjoy being children while receiving care.

The new library is a reminder that healing goes beyond medicine. It is also about creating spaces where children can learn, imagine, connect and continue to dream, even during difficult times.

We are grateful to Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana and all the partners and supporters whose generosity is helping to make this vision a reality.
