The EPA Western Regional Office in Sekondi organized a capacity-building workshop for industry players in the waste management sector on September 15, 2026.

The workshop strengthened collectors’ capacity to properly handle, store, transport, and manage waste while promoting practices that reduce pollution and protect our soil, water, and air.

The programme featured insightful presentations from resource persons from Zoil Services Limited on “The Role of Used Oil Recyclers in the Industry” and Zeal Environmental Technologies Limited on “The Importance of E-Waste Management Centres in the Circular Economy.”

Together, we can turn waste into resources and build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future.

EPA SHUTS DOWN EMPIRE CEMENT GHANA LIMITED OVER AIR POLLUTION

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has issued an immediate shutdown notice to Empire Cement Ghana Limited following investigations into public complaints concerning severe air pollution.

The investigation revealed concerns over:

1. Sustained particulate and gaseous emissions from the facility.
2. Failure to submit required quarterly environmental monitoring returns.
3. Failure to install appropriate, modern pollution control systems.

The facility has been directed to halt all operations until it complies with national environmental standards, addresses impacts on affected communities, and obtains written clearance from the EPA.

Environmental compliance is not optional. Protecting public health and the environment requires accountability, responsible industrial practices, and strict adherence to regulatory requirements.

AWARENESS CREATION ON THE BAN ON STROFOAM PRODUCTS AT THE GRAND DURBAR OF THIS YEAR’S AXIM KUNDUM FESTIVAL

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Ellembelle Area Office, Nkroful in collaboration with the Western Regional Office, Sekondi conducted a one-day public awareness campaign on the ban on the use of Styrofoam products in Ghana during the grand durbar of this year’s Axim Kundum Festival at Axim in the Nzema East Municipal Assembly of the Western Region on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The campaign commenced with a radio sensitization program at Nzema FM 96.5 at Axim, followed by direct engagement with local vendors and community members at the festival grounds and within the community. The team educated the public on the ban, which takes effect on 1st January 2027, and encourage everyone to support its successful implementation.

Protecting our environment starts with the choices we make every day. Say no to Styrofoam and embrace sustainable alternatives.
