The Commission, with the support of UNFPA Ghana, has successfully held a Public Hearing on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the Asokore Mampong Municipality, Ashanti Region, under the ๐‘บ๐’„๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ผ๐’‘ ๐‘จ๐’„๐’„๐’†๐’”๐’” ๐’•๐’ ๐‘น๐’Š๐’ˆ๐’‰๐’•๐’”-๐‘ฉ๐’‚๐’”๐’†๐’… ๐‘ฐ๐’๐’•๐’†๐’ˆ๐’“๐’‚๐’•๐’†๐’… ๐‘ฎ๐’†๐’๐’…๐’†๐’“-๐‘ฉ๐’‚๐’”๐’†๐’… ๐‘ฝ๐’Š๐’๐’๐’†๐’๐’„๐’† ๐‘บ๐’†๐’“๐’—๐’Š๐’„๐’†๐’” ๐‘ท๐’“๐’๐’‹๐’†๐’„๐’•.

The highly impactful engagement brought together GBV survivors, civil society organisations working on gender justice and human rights, government agencies, law enforcement officers, health professionals, social workers, traditional and religious leaders, the media, and members of the general public to discuss practical approaches to preventing and responding to GBV.

Discussions focused on gender-transformative approaches, affirmative action, gender inequality, GBV, teenage pregnancy and ๐ญ๐ž๐œ๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ-๐Ÿ๐š๐œ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ-๐›๐š๐ฌ๐ž๐ ๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž (๐“๐…๐†๐๐•). As human rights concerns increasingly extend from physical environments into digital spaces, technology has also become a means through which gender-based violence is perpetrated, facilitated and amplified. Educating communities on is therefore essential to promoting digital safety, protecting privacy, recognising online abuse and strengthening prevention and response mechanisms.

The hearing also provided a safe platform for voluntary survivor testimonies and community perspectives, highlighting the lived realities of GBV and the urgent need for stronger prevention, protection, referral and survivor-support services.

The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of CHRAJ and UNFPA to advancing human rights, gender equality and access to justice through community participation, institutional accountability and coordinated action.

Ending GBV requires action in every space, both physical and digital. Let us together, strengthen protection, empower survivors and build communities where everyone can live with dignity and free from violence.

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), in collaboration with NCCE Gh with funding support from GIZ Ghana under the S(HE) Project, continues to strengthen stakeholder capacity on Childrenโ€™s Rights in the Digital Space, Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA), and Gender Equality and Transformative Approaches.

These sensitisation engagements have so far been held in the Western, Volta and Ashanti Regions, reaching approximately 480 key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, educators, parents, security personnel, CSOs, FBOs, media practitioners, students, market queens and Persons with Disabilities.

The engagements underscore the importance of collective action to protect children online, promote gender equality, prevent sexual and gender-based violence, and advance human rights.

The Commission(CHRAJ), with funding support from the UNFPA Ghana, organized a capacity building workshop from 10 to 13 May 2026 in Kumasi on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) reporting mechanism under the Scaling up Access to Rights-Based Integrated Gender Based Violence Services project jointly implemented by CHRAJ and UNFPA.

The workshop was designed to strengthen the capacity of CHRAJ staff to effectively engage in all stages of the UPR cycle, from preparing credible independent reports to monitoring the implementation of UPR recommendations on Ghana.

The Commission successfully concluded a four-day intensive Legal and Psychosocial Training on Gender-Based Violence Case Management for 28 Legal Officers from the Head Office and Regional Offices.

Held from 5โ€“8 August 2026 in Koforidua, the training strengthened participantsโ€™ capacity in gender-responsive investigations, survivor-centred complaint management, psychosocial support, decision writing, and the application of human rights standards in GBV cases.
