The Ministry of Health has constituted a committee to investigate matters concerning the unrest at the Nursing Training College, Techiman-Krobo. The committee comprises the following members:

1. Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong – Deputy Registrar of Health Facilities Regulatory Authority, Nurse and former Dean of School of Nursing, UDS.
2. Mr. Ahmed Bennett Mumuni – Human Resource Manager of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council.
3. Nana Asa Akon Panin – Techiman-Krobohene
4. Mrs. Hepthzebah Gyimah – Deputy Director of Operations; Representative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
5. Mrs. Isha Sena Iddrisu – Secretary to the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions
6. Nashiru-Deen Akparibo - President of the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees' Association (GNMTA)
7. Dr. Inua Yussuf Issahaku Esq. - Legal Director of the Ministry of Health

The Committee shall be chaired by Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong.

The committee is expected to establish the facts surrounding the issues which led to the unrest in the school, review and determine whether existing policies, code of conduct and administrative procedures have been complied with, and make recommendations to the Minister for Health for appropriate action.

The committee is further expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Minister on or before 11th August, 2026.

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝗸𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service has marked World Hepatitis Day 2026 with a strong call to action to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030, highlighted by the inauguration of a National Viral Hepatitis Technical Working Group and the appointment of celebrated musician Okyeame Kwame as National Ambassador.

Held under the theme “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down,” the event brought together key stakeholders across the health sector to strengthen Ghana’s response to the disease, which affects about 10 percent of the population.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for Health, Chief Director Desmond Boateng described hepatitis as a serious public health concern and stressed the need for sustained commitment, collaboration, and community involvement.

He announced plans to expand critical interventions, including the nationwide rollout of the Hepatitis B birth-dose vaccine to protect newborns.

The Chief Director, urged the public to prioritise regular screening, stressing that early detection saves lives and is key to achieving a hepatitis-free Ghana by 2030.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, highlighted efforts to integrate hepatitis services into primary healthcare, while experts revealed that an estimated three million Ghanaians are living with Hepatitis B and over 500,000 with Hepatitis C.

A major highlight was the appointment of Okyeame Kwame, recognised for over 15 years of advocacy and free screening campaigns. He unveiled a new awareness song aimed at encouraging testing and reducing stigma.

Stakeholders, including development and industry partners, pledged support to expand access to testing, vaccines, and treatment nationwide.

The Minister for Health, Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, today addressed the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana at the PMAG Day 2026, where he reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing through innovation, strategic procurement and investment in quality systems.

"Government is encouraging pharmaceutical manufacturers to take advantage of financing available through the Ghana EXIM Bank to expand production, improve standards, and emerge as competitive manufacturers serving Ghana, the subregion, and beyond", he added
