PROJECT UPDATE:

🚧 Abidjan–Lagos Corridor Project 🚧

The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the Abidjan–Lagos Corridor Project.

He gave this assurance when the Board Chair of the Abidjan–Lagos Corridor Management Authority (ALCoMA), Mr. Wilfried Lauriano do Rego, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Roads and Highways yesterday.

Receiving the delegation, Hon. Suhuyini expressed Ghana’s readiness to support ALCoMA’s efforts to advance the project and address issues required for its implementation.

Mr. do Rego said ALCoMA was ready to begin operations and work with member countries and other stakeholders to move the project forward.

The meeting focused on key implementation issues, including resource mobilisation, preparation of detailed designs, land acquisition and valuation, and compensation for project-affected persons.

PROJECT UPDATE:

🚧 Dome-Kitase Road Project 🚧

Government has taken a key decision to resume construction of the Dome–Kitase Road Project under the Big Push Infrastructure Programme. The project stalled following Ghana’s debt restructuring programme in 2022.

Yesterday, Hon. Kwame Agbodza directed the contractor, First Sky Limited, to fully mobilise to site by the close of this week.

Under the current arrangement, the project, which had reached approximately 27 per cent completion before construction stalled, is expected to be completed by 2028.

The scope of the project has also been expanded to include 10km of connecting roads to nearby communities along the stretch. This is expected to improve accessibility and enhance connectivity within the area.

Hon. Agbodza explained that the decision to prioritise the project under the Big Push Programme forms part of Government’s broader efforts to address critical infrastructure needs and improve road connectivity across the country.

“We are taking the necessary steps to ensure that this project resumes fully and progresses without interruption. The contractor is expected to mobilise back to site by the end of this week, and we want to see sustained work until the project is completed,” he emphasised.

BIG PUSH UPDATE

🚧Rehabilitation and Dualisation of the Takoradi–Agona Junction Road
(23.0 km) 🚧

The Takoradi–Agona Junction Road Project is scheduled for completion by the end of November 2026, following the Government’s payment of US$78 million in outstanding arrears to the contractor.

During an inspection of the project earlier today, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza expressed satisfaction with the progress of work.

The contractor, Justmoh Construction Limited, assured the Minister that the project would be completed and handed over by the end of November.

“The next time we come here in November, we will be taking over the completed project without fail. We thank all the people living along the corridor for their cooperation during the construction,” the Minister stated.

PROJECT UPDATE:

ACCRA-KUMASI EXPRESSWAY

The Ghana Armed Forces has handed over the cleared right-of-way for the Accra- Kumasi Expressway to President John Mahama, paving the way for construction to begin.

The 48 Engineer Regiment cleared 175.6 kilometres of the corridor in 19 weeks, completing the task one week ahead of schedule.

President Mahama commended the military for the timely completion and announced that government had secured US$2 billion to finance the project. He also directed that the GAF Engineers Regiment be engaged as a major subcontractor for the project.

On his part, Hon. Kwame Agbodza said the military’s engineering expertise would complement the work of the main contractor and help ensure efficient delivery of a quality road project.

PROJECT SCOPE

The project comprises a new controlled-access expressway corridor of approximately 198.7km between Ablekuma in Accra and Sawua in Kumasi, of which 175.6km will be the newly constructed expressway mainline and 23.1km of upgrading of existing connector roads at the Accra and Kumasi ends to integrate the new route with the existing network.

The mainline is a Class A facility with three-lane dual carriageways on a 36.0m and a design speed of 120 km/h. The connector roads are Class B at a design speed of 60 km/h- the Accra Connector Road 17.9km and the Kumasi Connector Road 5.2km.

The engineering scope includes:
• Eight (8) grade-separated interchanges to be constructed near the following towns:
• Ablekuma New Town
• Adeiso
• Asamankese,
• Akim Oda
• Ofoase
• Asante Ofoase
• Lake Bosomtwe and
• Sewua Junction on Lake Road• Nine (9) at-grade intersections,
• Eleven (11) vehicular overpasses,
• Fifty-Five (55) mainline bridges
• 280 reinforced concrete box culverts
• 56 Overpasses /underpasses
• Four (4) service areas
• Eight (8) toll locations,
• One (1) operations centre with two monitoring sub-centres,
• Three (3) maintenance depots,
• One (1) fire station
• Road safety systems,
• Civil and electromechanical works for an intelligent transport system.

BIG PUSH UPDATE

🚧 Tamale 3rd Ring Road 🚧

Construction of the 34km Tamale 3rd Ring Road under the Government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme is progressing steadily, with sections of the project ahead of schedule.

The asphaltic concrete dual carriageway traverses the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipality, serving communities including Kanvilli, Tuunayili, Fuo, Vittin, Banvim, Datoyili, Shishegu, Kpalsi, Gurugu and Jisonayili.

Current progress:
Lot 1: Banvim–Jisonayili, being constructed by M/S China Railway No. 5 — 27.40% complete and ahead of schedule.

Lot 2: Jisonayili–Kanvilli, being constructed by M/S Sinohydro Corporation Limited — 10.50% complete.

Lot 3: Kanvilli–Vittin Barrier, being constructed by M/S Munisco Limited — 38.50% complete and ahead of schedule.

Following an inspection of the project last Friday, Hon. Kwame Agbodza noted that, when completed, the road will improve traffic flow and support economic activity in the Tamale Metropolis.

BIG PUSH UPDATE

The Upper West Region is receiving its fair share of road projects under the Government’s BIg Push infrastructure initiative.

Earlier today, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, inspected some major road projects in the region and expressed satisfaction with the progress and pace of work.

Some of the projects visited, which are at various stages of completion, include:

- Wa–Han Road (Km 54–76): 34.72%
- Tumu–Han–Lawra (Km 45–70): 22.02%
- Tumu–Han–Lawra (Km 10–30): 15%
- Tumu–Sissili-Navrongo: 43%

Briefing the media after the inspection, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, said the Government recognises the region’s agricultural potential and is therefore investing significantly in its road infrastructure.

He added that the region will also benefit from feeder-road projects under the $500 million Ghana Market Access and Connectivity Project (GMACP).

BIG PUSH UPDATE

🚧 Upgrading of Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road (KM 37.00–74.00) 🚧

Work on the upgrading of the Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road under the Government’s Big Push programme is progressing steadily. The project is currently at 27 percent completion and ahead of schedule.

So far, the contractor, ASTEE COMPANY LIMITED, has undertaken the construction of U-drains, box culverts, earthworks, and filling to formation level.

Hon. Kwame Agbodza inspected the project as part of his tour of the Upper West and Upper East Regions earlier today and expressed satisfaction with the progress of works emphasizing that only quality work will be accepted under the Big Push programme.

“We will not accept any substandard work. The reset is about doing quality work and giving the people value for money,” he noted.

Chiefs and elders in the area thanked the Government for fulfilling its promise and bringing relief to the people.

Big Push Update

Hon. Agbodza Inspects Road Projects in Bono, Bono East, Savannah and Upper West Regions

Hon. Kwame Agbodza has expressed total disappointment and dissatisfaction with the pace of work on some road projects under the “Big Push” programme.

During an inspection tour earlier today, the Minister vowed to terminate contracts for non-performing projects and directed affected contractors to attend a critical review meeting on Monday in Accra to account for their performance.

The Ministers tour included a drive-through of the Sunyani Outer Ring Road, followed by inspections of the rehabilitation of the Sunyani–Buoko Junction–Techiman Road and the Techiman–Nkonsia Wenchi Road.

He also inspected ongoing works on the Wenchi–Sawla and Wa–Sawla Road projects.
