Health Sector Development Partners Meeting on Health Security

On 13 March 2026, KOICA hosted the Health Sector Development Partners Sub-Group on Health Security at our office. The meeting brought together partners to review ongoing laboratory activities across institutions and exchange updates on the current MPOX outbreak response.

The discussion provided an important platform for sharing information, strengthening coordination, and identifying ways to further enhance preparedness and response efforts.

Continued collaboration among development partners remains essential to advancing health security and resilient health systems.

Launch of the NoP Project to Strengthen RMNCAHN Services in Ghana

On 10 March 2026, KOICA and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) officially launched a new project titled
“Improving Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAHN) Service Delivery by Strengthening the Networks of Practice (NoP) in Ghana.”

The project focuses on strengthening the Networks of Practice (NoP) model, a system that connects different levels of healthcare facilities — including district hospitals, health centers, and Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds — to improve coordination, referral systems, and the overall quality of care.

Special thanks to Mr. Donghyun Shin, 2nd Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ghana, and Hon. Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, Hon. Deputy Minister of Health of Ghana, for joining the launch ceremony.

The Country Director of KOICA reaffirmed Korea’s continued support for strengthening Ghana’s health system and expressed hope that the project will contribute to improving the health and well-being of people in the three project regions — Eastern, Ashanti, and Central — as well as across the country.

Following the launch, the 1st Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting was held the next day with representatives from Ghana Health Service headquarters and the project regions to discuss the project’s next steps.

A meaningful milestone toward improving quality healthcare for women, children, and adolescents in Ghana.

Field Visit | KOICA–WFP Project in Northern Ghana

A joint delegation from KOICA and WFP conducted a field visit to Tamale under the project “Youth Economic Empowerment through Digitalization for Resilience in Food and Nutrition Security and Improved Livelihoods.”

The delegation visited Borimaga Women’s Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) — one of several community savings groups supported by the project — to observe how the initiative is being implemented at the community level.

The visit also included a courtesy call on District Department of Agriculture in Savelugu, discussions with a MoFA Extension Officer, and a briefing from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) district/regional office in Tamale on mVAM, one of the project’s key digital monitoring tools.

Through collaboration with national and local partners, KOICA and WFP continue working to strengthen food and nutrition security while supporting resilient livelihoods through digital innovation.

2026 Workshop | KOICA Ghana Office

On February 26–27, all staff gathered for our workshop to reflect, strategize, and align our direction for the years ahead.

Discussions ranged from designing our 2030 sector portfolios to identifying potential new projects for 2028. Country Director and Deputies, and Managers also explored ways to enhance inter-project linkages and improve efficiency, including the use of AI tools.

The workshop concluded with team presentations and a voting session that highlighted both strong ideas and strong teamwork.

Building on these discussions, KOICA Ghana Office will continue working toward a more strategic, integrated, and impactful 2026.

📣 KOICA Ghana Office Second Staff Meeting

On Wednesday, 18 February 2026, KOICA Ghana Office held its second staff meeting at the Big Conference Room to share organizational updates, exchange knowledge, and enhance collaboration across the office.

The meeting covered key topics including Korea’s ODA reforms and their implications, the common folder management system, KOICA PR guidelines, and project volunteer concepts with a focus on sustainability and alignment with KOICA Ghana Office projects.

In addition, as the Government of Ghana has declared Wednesdays as official “Fugu Day,” our staff commemorated the occasion by wearing Fugu, joining Ghana in preserving and promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage while fostering national pride and identity. 🇬🇭

🧧 Lunar New Year Greetings from KOICA Ghana Office

Today, Korea celebrates Seollal (Lunar New Year). Although Ghana does not observe a similar holiday, staff at KOICA Ghana Office marked the occasion by sharing New Year wishes together.

In Ghana, there is a widely known New Year greeting song that most people can sing. At the beginning of the year, people come together to sing and wish one another health, happiness, and prosperity. This tradition reflects the warm spirit of community that characterizes New Year celebrations in Ghana.

🤝 Courtesy Call on NDPC Chairman

On 6 February 2026, Ms. Boyeong Choe paid a courtesy call on Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

The meeting focused on Ghana–Korea collaboration to strengthen the agribusiness value chain under the USD 9.5 million KOICA-funded Local Economic Development Project, scheduled to commence in 2026.

Dr. Thompson emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation between Ghana and South Korea, highlighting community-level activities as a foundation for sustainable national development.

Ghana took center stage in shaping the future of global health security as key partners came together in Accra for a high-level dialogue, held under the theme “Ghana Leads, Partners Align: Securing Global Health Security in Ghana in a Changing Funding Landscape.”

Co-hosted by KOICA, U.S. CDC and the Ghana Health Service, the gathering brought together leaders from government, development partners, academia, and implementing agencies to align efforts around country-led priorities.
Against the backdrop of shifting global health financing, discussions highlighted the need for strong national ownership, smarter investments, and long-term approaches to safeguarding Ghana’s health security systems — reinforcing Ghana’s leadership in protecting health at home and beyond.

🌟 Preparing Future Leaders Through the KOICA Scholarship Program 🌟

KOICA recently conducted a pre-orientation session for six scholars selected for the KOICA Degree Program, who have been admitted to KDI, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, Handong Global University, and Incheon National University. 🎓🇰🇷

During the session, the KOICA CIAT Team shared practical information to support the scholars’ safe arrival in Korea and smooth adjustment to academic and daily life. Participants also had the opportunity to learn about their respective programs and the support systems available throughout their studies.

Through advanced training at these leading institutions, the scholars are expected to enhance their expertise and return with valuable knowledge and skills that will contribute to Ghana’s development and institutional capacity. With continuous support from KOICA and partner universities, this program aims to nurture a new generation of professionals who will play a vital role in building a more sustainable and resilient future. 🌍💙
