🇦🇺 High Commissioner, Berenice Owen-Jones was pleased to host members of the Ghana Australia Alumni Association (G3A) for a workshop that reminded us all of the extraordinary community this program has built.

Building on an earlier session in Kumasi, the Accra gathering brought together alumni for a day of learning, honest conversation, and genuine reconnection. The High Commissioner had the opportunity to hear directly from members about their experiences in Australia and the work they are doing across Ghana today. It was genuinely refreshing.

More than 400 Ghanaians have been supported through the Australia Awards since 2011. That is 400 stories of knowledge gained, brought home, and put to work for Ghana. We are proud of every single one.

The Australian High Commission in Ghana was pleased to organise a two-part Child Protection (CP) and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) training under the Direct Aid Program (DAP), delivered both in-person (19 May 2026) and virtually (21 May 2026).

The training brought together DAP partners, government stakeholders, development practitioners, and representatives from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, DOVVSU, UNFPA, UNICEF, and the Australian Federal Police—reinforcing a shared commitment to safe, inclusive and accountable development.

Participants strengthened their ability to identify and manage safeguarding risks, apply DFAT standards, respond appropriately to concerns, and embed a culture of prevention and accountability in their work. Through practical exercises and peer learning, they gained tools to translate policy into action.

This initiative marks an important step in strengthening systems that protect children and vulnerable populations, build community trust, and enhance program impact.

We are pleased to welcome researchers from Southern Cross University (Australia) to Ghana this week as part of an Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research-supported collaboration linking Ghana, Morocco, and Australia.
During their visit, the team met with local stakeholders, visited beekeepers in Kumasi and Kintampo, Afram Plains and Techiman, and engaged with partners at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and across the industry.
This work supports farmers and communities by improving pollination services, strengthening livelihoods, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Earlier this week, Second Secretary Amelia Edwards joined Australia Awards alumni in Kumasi for a professional development workshop organised in partnership with the Ghana Australia Alumni Association (G3A).

It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Ghanaian alumni who studied in Australia under the Australia Awards programme and are now back home, contributing to their communities and professions in meaningful ways.

Last week, Second Secretary Tiffany Yan and Direct Aid Program Manager Jennifer Burckson were pleased to commission two newly constructed mechanised boreholes in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region. This milestone was made possible through Australia's Direct Aid Program in partnership with Ark Development Organisation. The boreholes serve the communities of Trawa and Prekumase Agbom, while WASH education is being extended across 10 communities in the district, equipping residents with the knowledge to protect their health and sustain the gains this project brings. Access to clean water is not a luxury. It is the foundation on which healthy families and thriving communities are built, and Australia is proud to play a part in making that a reality here in Ghana.

❌ They ask for extra money to “speed up” your biometrics processing.
❌ They tell you to give false information at your biometrics appointment.
❌ They tell you to pay cash upfront or send money to a personal bank account.
