This morning, the sector minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim (MP), joined the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industries (GHCCI) during its Stakeholder Consultative Forum on Sustainable Payment and Financing Methodologies for National Infrastructure Projects.

Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim reiterated government's commitment to working with the GHCCI, contractors, consultants, developers, financial institutions, and international partners to build a stronger and more competitive domestic construction industry.

With the government currently undertaking important phases of infrastructure developments across the country, namely, the Big Push Infrastructure Programme, the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, the 24-Hour Economy Infrastructure Programme, the Greenvile District Housing Programme and other strategic projects, the minister believes these infrastructure overhauls have already created enormous opportunities for the construction industries.

It is the hope of the minister that, given the involvement of indigenous construction industries in the country’s infrastructural drive, the industry will not only be building infrastructure but also build the capacity of Ghanaian enterprises to deliver infrastructure for the future.

This morning, the sector Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim together with the Deputy minister, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui and engineers from the Ministry embarked on a working visit to the Westbound section of the Busia Highway between Kaneshie Market Station and First Light Junction to assess ground works ahead of the planned temporary closure of the 1.5km stretch on Monday 7th September 2026.

The temporary closure is to pave the way for the construction of critical storm drainage works under the Greater Accra Resilient Integrated Development (GARID) Project to address perennial flooding associated with that part of the City.

Yesterday, the sector minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim (MP) commenced a 3-day non-residential sector-wide retreat that brought together all heads of Agencies and Departments as well as directors of the Ministry to assess key sector projects, programmes and initiatives and most importantly how synergies can be built to further strengthen the reset agenda within the works, housing and water resources sectors of the economy.

This morning, the Ministry held a brief but important ceremony to formally hand over ministerial responsibilities from the former sector Minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to the new Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim ( MP).

The ceremony represented not only a change in leadership but also a demonstration of continuity and a smooth transition of responsibilities for the development of the works, housing, and water resources sectors.

At the ceremony were management of the Ministry including all the heads of Agencies and Departments under the Ministry.

This afternoon, the deputy minister, Hon Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui joined H.E, President John Dramani Mahama to inspect the progress of work being undertaken to complete the Saglemi Housing Project.

The 1500 housing project, which is being completed by LMI Holdings, will be equipped with a dedicated water supply system, internet connectivity, and other essential infrastructure to make it a conducive housing estate for the citizenry.

Having been briefed by the developer, the President disclosed that the 1500 Housing project will be ready for commissioning by end of 2027 with the first 700 units set to be completed by March 2027.
