Connecting citizens to Parliament of Ghana through new digital technologies facilitating citizens feedback provision and citizen engagement

Penplusbytes is working exclusively with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Government Assurance in their oversight work on selected themes. Introduction: The overall goal of this project is to enable Parliament, through its Government Assurance Committe

e, play an effective oversight role over assurances and promises made by government with particular emphasis on education and health leading to an improvement of public service delivery and also fulfillment of promises made by government. The project implemented by Penplusbytes (www.penplusbytes.org) with technical and funding support from OSIWA is designed to increase interaction between the Government Assurance Committee and Citizens on public service delivery for the health and education sectors using technology platforms. The project will also provide the select committee members with information on selected assurances and promises made by government to effectively make ministers accountable on promises made on the floor of parliament. Objectives:
• Providing easy and accessible information on government assurances on Health, Education and other selected sectors
• Creating citizen awareness on government assurances
• Providing a vibrant online and offline platform for citizens and CSOs to engage with parliament
• Providing a platform for citizen based advocacy on service delivery

Activities:
• An interactive multimedia online resource platform which will project the voices of citizens on selected promises made by government that also provide parliament with information to effectively hold government to account.
• Structured citizens engagement with members of parliament using new digital technologies platform
• Forums and media outreach to sensitize citizens on government promises and assurances on health and education
• Quarterly report briefings on selected promises and assurances shared with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Government Assurance

Intended Outcomes:
Increase in the interactions between the Select Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurance and Citizens on public service delivery for the health and education sectors using technology platforms. Increase access to relevant information by select Parliamentary committees working with a technology savvy research department to hold sector ministers accountable on promises made on the floor of parliament
Effectiveness of the information sharing platform on the work of select Parliamentary committees
