69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION IN ACHIASE DISTRICT.

The Achiase District Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) celebrated the 69th Independence Day at the district capital, Achiase. The event formed part of the nationwide celebration of Ghana Independence Day, which commemorates Ghana’s independence and promotes patriotism among citizens.

The ceremony brought together traditional authorities, officials from the District Assembly, education officers, teachers, students, and members of the public. In total, eighteen (18) schools within Achiase community participated in the parade and other activities organized to mark the occasion.

The participating schools displayed discipline and enthusiasm through well-coordinated marching drills and other performances, which were admired by dignitaries and the general public.
At the end of the parade, awards and certificates were presented to the best-performing schools. The top three (3) schools in both the Primary and Junior High School (JHS) categories were honoured with certificates and awards for their outstanding performance during the parade.

In addition, the District Assembly which was led by Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako(DCE) also recognized academic excellence by awarding the best three (3) students in the district who performed exceptionally well in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The awards were presented to encourage students to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

The celebration successfully brought together stakeholders in education and the community to reflect on the nation’s progress and to inspire the younger generation to contribute positively to national development.

NO POLITICS WITH ACHIASE'S DEVELOPMENT: DCE SAYS.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Achiase, Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering development in the district without political bias. Speaking during his ongoing tour of communities across the district, Hon. Brako assured residents that his administration will prioritize inclusive development for all, irrespective of political affiliation.

He emphasized that a key priority of his leadership will be youth employment and empowerment, in line with the government’s Youth Employment Policy, aimed at creating sustainable jobs and improving livelihoods.

Addressing ongoing chieftaincy disputes, the DCE appealed for calm and urged traditional authorities and residents to embrace peaceful dialogue as the means to resolve conflicts, noting that peace is essential for development.

In a show of support for local initiatives, Hon. Brako donated Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 30,000) towards the completion of the Anyinam Water Storage Project, demonstrating his commitment to improving access to safe water and enhancing community well-being.

Hon. Brako reiterated his unwavering dedication to the government’s policies and programs to promote inclusive and equitable development across all parts of the Achiase District.

LAUNCH OF COMMERCIAL TRICYCLES UNION IN ACHIASE DISTRICT

The Achiase District Assembly has officially launched a Commercial Tricycle Union to regulate the operations of tricycles within the district. The initiative is in line with government’s broader agenda to create job opportunities and take advantage of the President’s promise to regularize tricycle operations nationwide.

In his address, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, emphasized that job creation for the youth remains a top priority for his administration. He further noted that the Assembly, in collaboration with stakeholders, have developed comprehensive measures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of tricycles in the district.

The launch brought together key stakeholders including the MTTD, District Police Service, District Narcotics Commission, DVLA, and Traditional Authorities, all of whom commended the initiative and pledged their full support towards its success.

The general public welcomed the move, describing it as a crucial step to ensure road safety, regulate fares, and safeguard passengers. Owners and operators of commercial tricycles also expressed their appreciation, stating that the formation of the union provides legitimacy and order to their work.

The program marks a significant step in the district’s efforts to promote regulated transportation, enhance safety, and create employment opportunities.

FIRST OFFICIAL WORKING TOUR OF HON. SAMUEL OWUSU BRAKE, DCE FOR ACHIASE DISTRICT.

Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, the District Chief Executive for Achiase, has undertaken his maiden official working tour of ten key communities within the district since assuming office. The tour was aimed at familiarizing himself with the communities, engaging traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and residents, and assessing the development needs of the people.

During the engagements, Hon. Brako reiterated his commitment to promoting inclusive governance and bringing development closer to the grassroots. He assured the communities of his administration’s readiness to prioritize infrastructure, health, education, and youth empowerment initiatives.

Community leaders and residents warmly welcomed the DCE, expressing optimism that his tenure would accelerate the district’s growth and address long-standing developmental challenges. The tour also offered Hon. Brako firsthand insight into pressing concerns such as poor road networks, sanitation issues, and the need for enhanced social amenities.

The Achiase District today marked the second launch of the National Sanitation Day program at Aperade, the second of its three Area Councils.

Following the maiden edition at Achiase, the district capital, the Assembly resolved to extend the relaunch of the program to all three Area Councils to promote community ownership and sustainability.

The event in Aperade recorded a huge turnout, with residents actively participating in desilting gutters, cleaning streets, market centers, and other public spaces.

In their remarks, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, and the Chief of Aperade commended the government’s sanitation initiative. They further pledged their commitment to ensuring its long-term success in the district.

The successful exercise is a strong demonstration of the district’s dedication to public health and the creation of a clean, aesthetically pleasing environment.

The Achiase District Assembly convened its first Ordinary General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, 26th August 2025, at the Assembly's Conference Hall. The meeting marked a significant milestone in the District's governance and development efforts.

Hon. Brako highlighted a substantial financial boost in the Assembly’s annual Common Fund Grant from approximately GHC 2 million under the previous administration to about GHC 18 million aimed at facilitating a comprehensive development agenda across the district.

Key among the DCE’s development priorities is a strong focus on infrastructure. He announced plans to construct a 24-hour market and a new lorry station—signature projects for which land has already been secured with a promise to ensure that the Achiase town roads and the Achiase - Akenkansu road will be developed while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving sanitation as a core component of the new government's programs.

On employment, the DCE noted that about 40 youth have already been engaged in the district under the Youth Employment Agency's (YEA) Security Assistant Program, while some 50 individuals expected to benefit under the NEIP program.

A significant resolution passed during the meeting was the approval of the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan, which will serve as a roadmap for the district's development initiatives.

Hon. Brako commended the previous Assembly and Management for their dedication and contributions and called on all Assembly Members and stakeholders to support his vision to transform the Achiase District into a hub of sustained development.

Achiase Celebrates National Thanksgiving and Prayer Day.

The Achiase District on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, joined the rest of the country to commemorate the National Thanksgiving and Prayer Day as declared by the President of the Republic.

The Christian segment of the celebration, organized by the District Assembly and the Christian Council of Churches in Achiase, was held at the Methodist Church in Achiase.

Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, said it's a day for national reflection and prayer while describing it as a significant event and step towards promoting peace, unity, and spiritual renewal in the country.

He also used the platform to highlight his vision for the district, chief among them was his signature initiative – the construction of a modern lorry station aimed at enhancing transportation infrastructure and economic activity in the area. He also mentioned plans for other future infrastructure improvements to uplift the living standards of residents.

Later in the afternoon, Hon. Owusu Brako joined the Muslim community at the Achiase Central Mosque to continue the day’s observance. He participated in prayers led by the Imam and interacted with Muslim leaders and worshippers and further reiterated his commitment to inclusive development and assured the Muslim community of his unwavering support.

The celebration of the National Thanksgiving and Prayer Day in the Achiase District was marked by a strong sense of togetherness, religious harmony, and a shared commitment to development which, aligns with the national vision for a prosperous and cohesive Ghana.

THE 2025 BECE COMMENCES IN ACHIASE.

The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially commenced in the Achiase District with a total of 764 candidates, 387 females and 377 males, who are sitting for the exams at two designated centers: Achiase Senior High School and Aperade Senior High School.

In a show of support and encouragement, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, alongside the District Education Director, Mr. Samuel Wadier, and the acting District Coordinating Director, Mr. Safo Kafui visited the candidates to boost their morale and ensure that preparations were in place for a smooth examination process.

The DCE wished the candidates well and urged them to remain confident in their abilities. He reminded them of the district’s strong academic record as among the top five BECE performers in the Eastern Region and challenged them to uphold and improve this reputation through hard work and integrity.

The DCE assured the candidates of the Assembly's continued support, particularly for the best-performing students. As part of his encouragement, he distributed pens to all candidates and emphasized the importance of avoiding examination malpractices.

Hon. Brako also took the opportunity to interact with the invigilators, advising them to maintain a professional and friendly environment to help candidates remain calm and focused during the exams and donated water and drinks to them.

In a brief discussion with the District Education Director, he reaffirmed the Assembly's and his own commitment to supporting both basic and senior high school education in the district to drive development.

ACHIASE LAUNCHES THE “TREE FOR LIFE” INITIATIVE.

The Achiase District Assembly, in collaboration with the Akim Oda Forestry Commission, successfully launched the “Tree for Life” initiative at the Assembly compound. The event marked a significant step toward environmental sustainability and afforestation within the district.

The launch witnessed the participation of various government agencies, institutions, and private stakeholders.

The Director of the Akim Oda Forestry Commission commended the Achiase Assembly for its commitment to the national afforestation drive. He emphasized the critical role of tree planting in combating climate change and preserving the environment while instilling the same in children and the younger generation to ensure long-term impact.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, hailed the initiative as a timely intervention. He noted that the national investment in planting approximately 30,000,000 trees was both prudent and necessary and stressed that beyond planting, it is essential to ensure the survival and sustainability of these trees.

The launch of the “Tree for Life” initiative at Achiase is indicative of the district's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

Visit by Ghana Army Chief to Achiase Traditional Authority

On May 27, 2025, Major General L.K. Gbekanu, Chief of the Army Staff (CAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, paid a significant visit to the Achiase Traditional Authority.

He also visited Lt. Col. Jacob Cudjoe, the Commanding Officer of the Seth Anthony Military Training School.

During the visit, Major General Gbekanu praised the enduring peace and cooperation between the military and the Achiase community, recalling his own training experiences at the school. He presented his personal insignia to the traditional authority as a token of appreciation and to symbolize the deep bond shared.

The Queen Mother, obaahemaa Darkoa and the DCE, hon Samuel Owusu Brako, both emphasized the importance of the natural forest land granted to the army for training — a site that now hosts foreign military exercises. They officially appealed for compensation in the form of local content support for the Achiase District.

Major General Gbekanu assured the community of continued collaboration and revealed that the Chief of Defence Staff is scheduled to visit the area soon, further reinforcing the strong military-community relationship.

The visit was aimed at expressing gratitude for their support during his confirmation, strengthening ties, and fostering collaboration for the overall development of the district.
