⛈️ URGENT: RAINSTORM SAFETY ADVISORY⛈️

With heavy rains and potential storms approaching, your safety is our top priority. Please take a moment to review these essential safety tips to protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors.

🏠 Stay Safe at Home

Stay Indoors: Avoid going out unless it is absolutely necessary.

Unplug Devices: Protect your electronics from power surges by unplugging them.

Clear the Drains: Ensure the gutters and drains around your home are free of debris to prevent localized flooding.

Avoid Tall Trees: Do not seek shelter under trees or near temporary structures during high winds.

🚗 On the Road

Turn on Hazards: If visibility is poor, pull over to a safe spot away from power lines.

Don't Drown, Turn Around: Never attempt to drive or walk through moving water. It only takes a small amount of water to sweep away a vehicle.

Watch for Debris: Be alert for fallen branches, downed cables, or objects washed onto the road.

📞 Emergency Contacts

Keep emergency numbers saved and your mobile devices charged to stay informed. If you encounter a life-threatening situation or a blocked waterway, report it immediately to the local authorities.

Feel free to contact the Regional Head of the Emergency Operations Command, Mr Moses Akomanyi on 0291901139 or the Regional Head of Disasters, Mr Onasis Kobby Quayson on 0200960948 or the Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr Samuel Essel Duku on 0246387732.

Community Resilience Starts With You. Let’s look out for one another and stay weather-aware.

Rain is not a license to dump waste into drains. Choked gutters cause flooding and put lives at risk. See anyone dumping refuse into waterways or gutters during the rains? Record it and report it to NADMO via WhatsApp: 0504 953 200. Be a citizen, not a spectator.

NADMO Donates Roofing Sheets to Storm-Affected Schools in KEEA

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) Municipality has donated roofing sheets to basic schools severely affected by recent rainstorms that swept through parts of the area about three weeks ago.

The intervention forms part of efforts by the Municipal Directorate of NADMO to support educational institutions whose structures were damaged, disrupting teaching and learning activities.

The most affected schools include Essaman United Basic School and Ruth Sundquist M/A Basic School at Amoanda, both of which suffered extensive damage to their roofing systems, leaving classrooms exposed and unsafe for academic work.

The donation exercise was led by the Municipal Director of NADMO, Mr. Edward Akakpo Sortoh, who, together with his team, presented the roofing materials to the beneficiary schools.

The items were provided by NADMO’s National Headquarters through the Director-General, Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, with support from the Central Regional NADMO Director, Hon. E. Kwasi Dawood, as part of coordinated efforts to respond to disaster situations across the region.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Sortoh explained that the gesture is aimed at restoring a safe and conducive learning environment for both pupils and teachers following the destruction caused by the heavy rains. He reiterated NADMO’s commitment to responding swiftly to disaster situations and providing support to vulnerable institutions within the municipality.

He further advised school authorities and community members to adopt preventive measures, especially during the rainy season. These include regular maintenance of school infrastructure and avoiding activities that may compromise the structural integrity of buildings.

School authorities and community leaders expressed their appreciation to NADMO for the timely intervention, noting that the support will significantly aid in the quick resumption of academic activities under safe conditions.

The Municipal Directorate reaffirmed its readiness to continue collaborating with stakeholders to address disaster-related challenges and strengthen resilience across communities in KEEA.

NADMO Conducts Flood Assessment at Amisano

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has conducted a flood impact assessment at Amisano following recent heavy rains that affected parts of the community.

The exercise was led by the Municipal Director, Edward Akakpo Sortoh, together with a disaster management team from the Municipal Directorate of NADMO.

The team visited affected areas within the community to assess the extent of damage caused by the flooding, including its impact on homes, livelihoods, and public infrastructure. The exercise forms part of efforts to gather accurate data to support relief interventions and future preventive measures.

As part of the visit, the NADMO team paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Amisano, where they discussed the situation on the ground and the urgent needs of affected residents. The Assembly Member for the area also joined the engagement, highlighting concerns from the community and calling for swift assistance.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Sortoh assured residents that NADMO remains committed to supporting affected households and working closely with local authorities to reduce the impact of such disasters.

He also advised residents to avoid building along waterways and to take precautionary measures during the rainy season to minimize risks.

The Municipal NADMO Directorate reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure timely response and to strengthen community resilience against flooding.
