Gunfire at Bantama SDA SHS: Two Students Seriously Injured - GhArticles
On April 4, 2025, a shooting disrupted the Seventh-day Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Kumasi, when a Form Two student accidentally fired a locally made pistol during a break-time argument.
The incident occurred around 10:30 AM after the student, attempting to prove the gun’s authenticity to classmates, shot a female student in the forehead and injured a male student with BB pellets.
The female victim was rushed to Kwadaso SDA Hospital and later transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she stabilized, though both students sustained serious injuries.
The 16-year-old suspect, who had taken the firearm from his father’s home, was arrested by the Suame District Police after teachers intervened to protect him from an angry mob of students. He had recently overstayed an exeat and switched to day-student status without permission, pulling the gun from his school bag during the dispute.
The Ashanti Regional Police are investigating how he obtained the weapon and his motives for bringing it to school, while the incident has raised alarm about school safety in the region.
