47 prisons health aides undergo healthcare/ward assistants training

The Ghana Prisons Service in collaboration with the National Vocational and Technical Institute and the Ghana Health Service has begun a proficiency training for 49 prisons health aides.

The one week intensive training which is aimed at upgrading the Health Aides to Healthcare/ ward Assistants will equip them with the relevant knowledge and skills to enable them render improved healthcare delivery to patients of the prison community.

At the opening ceremony held at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on Monday, the Eastern Regional Prisons Commander and officer in charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison who was the Guest of Honour, DDP Samuel Owusu-Amposah, entreated the participants to take the training seriously, adding that it will inure to the benefit of the prison community, especially the inmates and also their personal career development.
" The prisons administration is arming you with this weapon, to upgrade your capacity and make you more efficient for the total improvement of the healthcare delivery system of the Service", DDP Owusu-Amposah said.

Other dignitaries present were the Commissioner of NVTI, ENG.John Ocran, Greater Accra Coordinator of NVTI, Mr. Stephen and Asomani.
Others were ADP Sophia Osei- Bonsu, ADP Thopson Otsyokpo, ADP Joseph Yankey, ADP Nii Armah Ayeetey and othe senior prison officers.

BONO AND AHAFO REGIONS WET NEWLY PROMOTED SENIOR OFFICERS

A wetting ceremony for newly promoted senior officers of the Bono and Ahafo Regions was held at the Sunyani Central Prison canteen on Jul, 10 2022 in accordance with the traditions of the Ghana Prisons Service to initiate the officers to their various next higher ranks.

The newly promoted senior officers numbering twenty-seven/27 who were drawn from Sunyani Central and Female prisons, Kenyasi and Duayaw Nkwanta Camp Prisons got promoted from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) to Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) and also from the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) to Superintendent of Prisons (SUPT) after a competitive interview.

The newly promoted officers beamed with smiles as the Regional Commander, DDP Benedict Bob-Dery, ADP Samuel Fiifi Dontoh (2IC), Supt. Mary Asante Sarfo (Female OIC), Supt Esther Atuahene (Regional Auditor) and Supt Stephen Nti (Reception-in-charge) took turns to wet and offer words of encouragement amid cheers from other senior officers present.

The Bono Regional Commander, DDP Benedict Bob-Dery, in a short address, reminded the newly promoted officers that promotions come with higher responsibilities and urged them to be ready and committed to take on higher roles.

‘You have to work hard to justify your promotion and also to ensure the development of the service,’ he added.
The Regional Commander noted with gladness the fact that majority of the newly promoted officers were still very young and therefore a lot to offer the Service. He encouraged them not to be complacent but rather continue to constantly upgrade themselves and also use their youthfulness to help the Service to achieve its mandate.

The brief but impressive ceremony was crowned with a wining and dining session which saw some senior officers hitting the dance floor in celebration of the occasion.
