Cape Coast came together in a remarkable show of unity during the two-day National Clean-Up Exercise held on Friday, 10th July, and Saturday, 11th July, 2026, reaffirming a collective commitment to building a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful metropolis.
The exercise witnessed the enthusiastic participation of residents from all walks of life, demonstrating that environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility. Leading the initiative was the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, who actively participated in both days of the exercise.
On the first day, the Mayor also joined the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Ernest Davis, in the company of the Central Regional Director of Education and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Director of Education at Adisadel College, where they took part in the clean-up exercise, reinforcing the importance of environmental responsibility within educational institutions and the wider community.
On the second day, the clean-up campaign received an added boost with the participation of the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, and the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarku, who joined the MCE and residents in cleaning various parts of the metropolis.
The overwhelming turnout and collaborative spirit displayed throughout the exercise underscored the community’s unwavering determination to promote environmental cleanliness, prevent flooding, and safeguard public health.
Together, we have demonstrated that maintaining a clean environment requires the collective effort of government, community leaders, institutions, and every resident. Let us sustain this momentum and continue working hand in hand to make Cape Coast a shining example of environmental cleanliness, civic responsibility, and community pride.
