Yesterday, Saturday, 3rd October 2026, the One Week Observation of the late Ebusuapanyin George Ricketts-Hagan, father of Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South Constituency, Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority, and Head of Ghana’s Delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, was held in Cape Coast.

The solemn service was held at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral, after which the gathering proceeded to the family house at Amanful.

The ceremony brought together family, friends, sympathisers, party faithfuls and well-wishers, including the Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, who joined the family to honour and celebrate the life of the departed.

The funeral rites of the late Ebusuapanyin George Ricketts-Hagan are scheduled to take place from 15th to 17th January 2027 in Cape Coast.

May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace, and may God grant the family strength and comfort during this difficult period.

May his memory remain a blessing. 🕊️

On Friday, 2nd October 2026, the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, together with the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, and the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, officially commissioned a 3-Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facilities at Bessakrom M/A Basic School.

The project provides the school with a much-needed Junior High School (JHS) block, addressing a long-standing infrastructure gap and creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The commissioning was graced by the Cape Coast Metro Director of Education, Mr. Thomas Kwofie; a representative of the Regional Director of Education; the Headmistress, staff and pupils of the school; Nananom of the area; and residents of Bessakrom.

The Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, on Friday, 2nd October 2026, cut sod for the construction of a 3-Unit and 6-Unit Classroom Blocks for Christ Church Anglican Basic School at Adisadel.

The project is expected to be completed within eight months and will provide a safer and more conducive learning environment for pupils. Upon completion, the pupils will be relocated from the school’s old and dilapidated building into the new facility.

The ceremony was attended by the Metro Director of Education, Mr. Thomas Kwofie, the Anglican Bishop of Cape Coast, Rt. Rev. Dr. Victor Reginald Atta-Baffoe, the Regional Manager of the Anglican Education Unit, the Headmaster, teachers and pupils of the school, as well as headteachers and teachers from other neighbouring schools.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure and create better learning environments for children across the Cape Coast Metropolis.

On Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, held a productive engagement with the Heads of eleven (11) Senior High Schools, including the city’s only technical high school, Cape Coast Technical Institute.

The meeting focused on key areas aimed at strengthening education and improving outcomes across the metropolis, including support for the various schools, academic excellence, institutional collaboration, and the 30% quota for students from catchment communities where the schools are located.

Other important educational and developmental issues were also discussed, with a shared commitment to creating an enabling environment for students and strengthening partnerships between the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly and the various institutions.

The people of Ekon yesterday celebrated their Apayem Festival, a vibrant celebration of culture, tradition and community, which was graced by the presence of the Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur.

As part of the celebration, the Deputy Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Hon. Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, supported the Ekon Festival with a generous contribution of GH¢50,000 (Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis), demonstrating his continued commitment to promoting cultural activities and supporting community development within the constituency.

During the celebration, the Ekon Chief appealed to Hon. Kweku Ricketts-Hagan to assist the community in securing a cemetery for the people of Ekon. In response, the MP made a firm commitment that Ekon will have its own cemetery before the end of 2026.

Hon. Ricketts-Hagan also assured residents that the challenges with poor internet and mobile phone connectivity in Ekon will be addressed by the end of 2026, giving residents hope of improved communication and digital connectivity.

With just about three months remaining in the year, the people of Ekon will be looking forward to seeing these commitments translated into reality.

The Apayem Festival once again provided an opportunity to celebrate Ekon’s rich cultural heritage while highlighting the aspirations, concerns and development needs of the community.

The Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, started his three-day educational tour across the metropolis, visiting 12 Senior High Schools and technical institutions to engage school authorities, identify challenges and provide practical support.

The schools visited were Holy Child Girls’ SHS, Mfantsipim School, St. Augustine’s College, Adisadel College, Wesley Girls’ High School, Ghana National College, University Practice SHS, Cape Coast Technical Institute, Efutu SHS, Academy of Christ the King, Aggrey Memorial SHS, and Oguaa Secondary Technical High School.

The tour, which ended successfully, saw the distribution of dustbins and streetlights to promote cleaner, safer and better learning environments.
