*Fish Bazaar Program a Huge Success!*

On September 26, 2025, the Wildlife Park in Goaso played host to the highly anticipated Fish Bazaar program, an event that brought together key stakeholders in the fisheries industry. Chaired by Professor Berchie Asiedu, Deputy Executive Director (Technical Service) of the Fisheries Commission, and attended by notable dignitaries, the program was a resounding success.

Speakers highlighted the significance of the event and government's plans to support fish processors, including addressing high fish feed costs and providing a state-of-the-art market. An exhibition showcased innovative fish products like fish balls, fish pie, and fish spring rolls, samosa, and fish khebab, emphasizing alternative ways to consume fish.

The event demonstrated the potential for collaborative efforts to drive growth and development in the industry.

Ahafo Fisheries Commission Invites Region’s Top Dignitaries for “Fish Bazaar” Event

On September 19, 2025, a delegation from the Ahafo Fisheries Commission, led by the Regional Director, Madam Diana Obuobi Sakyibea, visited key dignitaries in the region to formally invite them to the commission’s upcoming event, the “*Fish Bazaar*”. The event is themed “*From pond to table: A culinary journey*” and will take off on September 26, 2025, at Wildlife Park in Goaso. This event aims to emphasize the significance of aquaculture in the region.

Among the dignitaries visited were Hon. Charity Gardiner, the Ahafo Regional Minister, and Mr.Joseph Frimpong Naayo, the Chief Director of the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council. Both Dignitaries expressed their enthusiasm for the event and agreed to grace the occasion with their presence. The Regional Minister praised the commission for promoting aquaculture and stressed the importance of sustainable fishing practices in the region.

The Chief Director of the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, Mr.Joseph Frimpong Naayo also expressed his excitement about the event, noting the critical role of aquaculture in promoting food security and economic growth. He lauded the commission for coordinating such a vital event and promised his full support and collaboration.

The “Fish Bazaar” is set to be a celebration of Ahafo’s aquaculture culinary journey, featuring a variety of dishes prepared by local chefs. Attendees can look forward to tasting fresh catches from the region’s ponds, as well as learning about sustainable fishing practices and the importance of venturing into fish farming.

THE DIRECTOR OF INLAND FISHERIES VISITS AHAFO REGION TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES PRACTICES

On August 13, 2025, Mr. Jescitan T. Sanakey, Director of Inland Fisheries, led a team on a working visit to the Ahafo region. The Staff of the Region, led by Madam Oboubi Diana Sakyibea, the Regional Director, warmly received and welcomed the Director and his entourage.

The primary objective of the visit was to enhance inland fisheries regulations and promote sustainable fisheries practices in the region. During our engagement, Mr. Sanakey emphasized the importance of conserving, preserving, and managing water resources for future generations. He also highlighted the need for effective stock management and identification in the various dams across the region.

As part of the visit, Mr. Sanakey and his team engaged with the Mim Traditional Council in the Asunafo district. The meeting allowed the director to gain insight into the local history and cultural traditions related to the dams. He also sought to understand the existing regulations and encouraged the council to promote good fishing practices.

Following the meeting with the Mim Traditional Council, Mr. Sanakey inspected the dams in the district, addressing concerns and providing guidance on sustainable fisheries management. He then proceeded to the Tanoso Traditional Council in the Tano North district, where he learned about the cultural significance and beliefs surrounding the Tano River. Notably, fishing activities are limited in certain areas due to cultural reasons.

This visit emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts between traditional authorities and fisheries managers to promote sustainable fishing practices.

THE DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE FISHERIES COMMISSION EMBARKS ON A PRODUCTIVE WORKING VISIT TO THE AHAFO REGION

On August 18, 2025, Professor Berchie Asiedu, Deputy Executive Director-Technical of the Fisheries Commission, undertook a significant working visit to the Ahafo region. During his visit, he received a warm welcome from Madam Oboubi Diana Sakyibea, the Director of the Ahafo region, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the region's achievements, goals, and challenges.

In his welcome address, Professor Asiedu expressed his sincere appreciation for the tireless efforts of the staff in the Ahafo region, highlighting their crucial role in realizing the commission's vision. He underscored the importance of the Blue Economy agenda, emphasizing its potential to drive sustainable development and resource management in the fisheries sector. The Deputy Executive Director encouraged staff members to support this initiative, stressing that value addition through knowledge acquisition, skill development, good interpersonal relationships, and credibility are essential pillars for achieving the commission's objectives.

Professor Asiedu encouraged staff to be committed and dedicated to the work, recognizing their contributions as frontline workers in ensuring food security for Ghanaians and beyond. He also took the opportunity to address various challenges faced by staff members, demonstrating his commitment to their well-being and professional growth.

A highlight of the visit was a meeting with Mr. Kwaku Opoku Bofah, the 2021 Regional Best Fisher, whose remarkable work left a lasting impression on the Deputy Executive Director. Professor Asiedu assured Mr. Bofah of the commission's unwavering support and commitment to empowering fishers and farmers in the region. He emphasized the significance of Mr. Bofah's contributions to food security, encouraging him to expand his operations and continue his good work.

This visit not only showcased the Fisheries Commission's dedication to its stakeholders but also underscored the importance of collaboration and support in achieving sustainable fisheries management and food security in Ghana.
