FIRST 2026 VOLTA REGIONAL CO-ORDINATING COUNCIL MEETING HELD

The Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) has held its first Regional Co-ordinating Council meeting for 2026 at the Residency Conference Room.
The meeting focused on key development initiatives and issues affecting the region, with the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, providing updates on government’s development agenda and ongoing interventions across the region.
The meeting also welcomed the Ambassador of Namibia to Ghana, H.E. Mrs. Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, following her recent tour of the Volta Region. Her participation provided an opportunity to explore areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration.
Key presentations included the Ghana Education Service’s update on the region’s 2026 BECE performance and school placement, and a report from the Ho Teaching Hospital on Mahama Care activities and achievements in the region from January to June 2026.
Other presentations covered the regional sanitation situation and findings from the VRCC’s routine monitoring activities.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Director, Alhaji Mohammed Avona Akape, MDCEs, Presiding Members, Cordinating Directors, Heads of Decentralised Departments and other key stakeholders.

NAMIBIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER EXPLORES VOLTA’S HISTORICAL AND TOURISM ASSETS

Her Excellency Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, High Commissioner of Namibia to Ghana, has continued her familiarisation visit to the Volta Region with a tour of some of the Region’s significant historical and tourism sites.
On Day Three of her visit, Her Excellency and her delegation visited Fort Prinzenstein in Keta, as part of efforts to gain a deeper appreciation of the Region’s historical heritage and tourism potential.
The delegation also visited the Lighthouse at Woe and other heritage sites along the coastal belt, offering the High Commissioner an opportunity to experience first-hand some of the attractions that make the Volta Region an important destination for heritage and cultural tourism.
The three-day familiarisation visit, which began on Monday, August 17, was designed to expose the Namibian High Commissioner to the Region’s economic, agricultural, health, educational, tourism and cultural potentials.
The visit to the historical and tourism sites on Day Three formed part of the programme outlined for the High Commissioner, which also included visits to the Hedzranawo Slavery Museum.
The Volta Regional Coordinating Council believes engagements of this nature can help deepen Ghana-Namibia relations while opening new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in tourism, investment and cultural exchange.
The visit also underscores the Region’s commitment to showcasing its rich heritage and diverse economic potential to international partners and visitors.

NAMIBIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER CONTINUES VOLTA FAMILIARISATION VISIT WITH TOUR OF HEALTH, AGRICULTURE, CULTURE AND TOURISM SITES
Her Excellency Mrs. Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to Ghana, continued her familiarisation visit to the Volta Region on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with a tour of key health, agricultural, cultural and tourism sites across the region.
The second day of the three-day visit, which is part of her broader engagement to understand the region’s economic and tourism potential, began with a visit to the Medical Tourism Facility of the Ho Teaching Hospital, where she explored opportunities within Ghana’s growing medical tourism sector. The itinerary identifies the facility as an opportunity for the High Commissioner to explore the hospital’s medical tourism offerings.
Her Excellency subsequently visited Vokia Farms at Agotime-Kpetoe, a youth-led agro-processing and farming enterprise. Vokia Farms engages in crop farming, livestock rearing and agro-processing, adding value to indigenous crops including maize, cassava, millet and sorghum into packaged food products for local and international markets.
The High Commissioner also visited the Kpetoe Kente Village, where she had the opportunity to witness first-hand the intricate process of weaving Ghana’s iconic Kente cloth. The visit offered a closer look at the craftsmanship, cultural heritage and economic opportunities embedded in the traditional textile industry.
Her itinerary further took her to other agricultural and enterprise sites, including Tadzewu, before proceeding to Keta, where she experienced aspects of the coastal tourism potential of the region.
The engagements form part of the High Commissioner’s three-day familiarisation visit to the region, designed to expose her to Volta’s investment, enterprise, agriculture, culture, health and tourism opportunities. The official programme describes the visit as an economic familiarisation exercise and includes engagements with key regional institutions, enterprises and tourism sites.
The visit continues to underscore the potential for stronger Ghana-Namibia collaboration, particularly in areas of trade, investment, agriculture, tourism and cultural exchange.

VOLTA REGIONAL MINISTER RECEIVES NAMIBIA AMBASSADOR TO GHANA

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, today received the Ambassador of Namibia to Ghana, H.E. Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, at the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC).
The visit forms part of the Ambassador’s three-day tour of the Volta Region, aimed at familiarising herself with the region, gaining insight into its economic potential, and exploring opportunities for business, trade and investment collaboration between Namibia and the Volta Region.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Hon. James Gunu highlighted the region’s vast economic potential, particularly in tourism, agriculture, trade and other emerging sectors. He expressed optimism that the visit would strengthen the relationship between Namibia and the Volta Region and open up mutually beneficial opportunities for collaboration and investment.
The Ambassador and her delegation are expected to engage with key stakeholders and explore some of the region’s economic and development opportunities during the tour.
Among the dignitaries who received the Ambassador were the Chief Director of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council, Alhaji Mohammed Avona Akape; Dean of the MMDCEs and DCE for Adaklu, Hon. Jerry Yaw Ameko; DCE for Ho West, Hon. Prof. Francis Dusey; Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. William Dzemefe; and Regional Development Planning Officer, Mr. Felix Adom Boateng.
