*Namibian High Commissioner Visits Volta Region to Explore Trade and Investment Opportunities*
Namibia’s High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Mrs Ndyakupi Mutuwamata is on a three-day familiarisation visit to the Volta Region as Ghana and Namibia seek to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen links between businesses and institutions.
The visit focused on exploring opportunities in agriculture, tourism, fisheries, cross-border trade, entrepreneurship and investment, while strengthening relations between the Volta Region and Namibia.
Welcoming the High Commissioner to Ho, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu described the Ghana-Namibia relationship as one rooted in African solidarity, Pan-Africanism and the struggle for liberation.
The Minister said the relationship should now move beyond its historical foundation to create tangible economic opportunities.
“Ghanaian businesses should explore opportunities in Namibia while Namibian businesses can use Ghana, particularly the Volta Region, as a gateway to West Africa,” he said.
On her part the High Commissioner said the visit marked a shift from political solidarity to economic cooperation.
“Our forefathers are saying they have won the political battle. It’s now for us to win the economic battle,” She said.
Mrs Mutuwamata, said she wanted to understand the economic strengths of the Volta Region and identify areas of mutual benefit.
“I want to see what Volta Region can offer to Africa, to Southern Africa, to Namibia in particular,” he said.
She identified agriculture, tourism, fisheries, coastal development, cross-border trade and entrepreneurship as key areas for collaboration and also expressed interest in connecting businesses and institutions and establishing town-twinning arrangements.
The High Commissioner said recent high-level contacts between Ghana and Namibia should be complemented by stronger business-to-business and people-to-people relations.
The Namibian mission has already organised a “Namibia Meets Ghana” event in Accra to promote tourism and engage the Ghanaian business community.
In a presentation, the Regional Economic Planning Officer, Mr. Felix Adom Boateng highlighted the Volta Region’s potential in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and coastal development. He also touched on the region’s strategic location along the Togo border which he said was an advantage for cross-border trade. He also highlight the region’s tourism attractions, including Mount Afadjato, Wli Falls, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, beaches and cultural festivals adding that the Region' capital Ho, has become a growing hospitality industry, positioning it as an emerging conference destination.
The District Chief Executive for Adaklu called for formal partnerships between districts and municipalities in the Volta Region and their Namibian counterparts to promote exchanges in local governance, culture and development.
Both sides expressed the hope that Ghana and Namibia’s longstanding political friendship would translate into stronger trade, investment, tourism, educational and cultural partnerships, creating opportunities for businesses, young people and communities.
