🧼🧠 May 2025: Health, Dignity & Awareness in Action
This week, the Ashanti Region marked two critical health events:

📍 World Hand Hygiene Day – Ejisu Hospital
🗓 Theme: “It might be gloves; it’s always hand hygiene”
The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate joined the global call to action reminding all that gloves are never a substitute for clean hands. Whether in homes, clinics, or surgical wards — hand hygiene at the right time and in the right way saves lives.

📍 Mental Health Awareness Month – Ghana
🗓 Theme: “Mental Well-being, My Voice Matters”
Yesterday, stakeholders across Ghana reaffirmed that mental health is a fundamental right. In the Ashanti Region, recent studies revealed that over 42% of adults aged 60+ live with depression — a call for urgent intervention. Mental health is not a curse — it is a medical condition that deserves compassion and care.

"What shall we render unto the Lord for all His blessings?" we pondered, as we embraced another year afforded to us—a year to gather, assess our performance, and plan strategically for the future. Dr. Fred Adomako-Boateg, the Regional Director, along with other distinguished leaders, joined in the festivities, dancing to the beautiful tunes of hymns of the Ashanti Regional Choir as an expression of their gratitude. This was a vivid reminder that our work extends beyond duty; it is a celebration of community and collective support.

As we reflect on our achievements and the challenges faced, we are reminded of the vital importance of our service and the strength we draw from one another. Together, we continue to advance with renewed vigor and commitment towards enhancing the health and well-being of the Ashanti region and beyond.

Ghana Health Service – Ashanti, 2024 Integrated Annual Performance Review and First Quarter Health System Innovations Review Meeting

Held at the Lancaster Hotel in Kumasi, this significant event focused on the theme: "Strengthening Primary Health Care Through Networks Of Practice (NoP) Towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC): Role of Stakeholders." This assembly of healthcare leaders and stakeholders demonstrated a profound commitment to advancing Ghana's healthcare systems towards Universal Health Coverage. We extend our deepest gratitude to all stakeholders, especially UNICEF, for their steadfast support.

Dr. Fred Adomako-Boateg, Regional Director of Health Service in Ashanti, emphasized the crucial need for linking holistic assessments with supportive supervision and rigorous appraisal systems. He advocated for the implementation of structured quarterly and bi-annual review cycles to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of health services throughout the region.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, representing the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, reaffirmed our commitment to the organization’s mandate. His address highlighted the critical upgrades required in primary healthcare, including infrastructure development and human resource enhancements, to ensure the provision of quality, accessible healthcare for all Ghanaians.

A pressing issue was addressed by Nana Chair, representing the Otumfuor, who spoke on the distressing increase in maternal mortalities in the region. He called for a comprehensive review of audit recommendations and the urgent formulation of collaborative strategies to significantly mitigate these preventable deaths.

This meeting marks a pivotal step in our journey towards improving healthcare accessibility and quality in the Ashanti region and beyond.
