Hon Abubakar Sedik, Kunsuhene and Investors Inspect Site for $30 Million Nursing Training College
A major step has been taken towards improving healthcare delivery and tertiary education in the Ahafo Ano South West District following a joint inspection of the proposed site for a US$30 million Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project at Kunsu in the Ashanti Region.
The inspection brought together officials of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, financiers of the project, representatives of DODCARS LBG, Globe Engineering Limited, Kunsuhene, Nana Dr Agyemang Badu Duah I, his sub-chiefs and elders, as well as other key stakeholders.
The visit was aimed at assessing the suitability of the land ahead of the commencement of construction works.
The ambitious project is expected to transform Kunsu into a major centre for healthcare delivery and tertiary health education through the establishment of a modern Nursing and Midwifery Training College, which will serve as a degree campus of the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College, while also ensuring the completion of the long-awaited Agenda 111 Hospital.
Speaking during the site inspection, the Chief Executive Officer of DODCARS LBG, Dr Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, explained that the project would be executed under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing (EPC+F) model through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement between DODCARS LBG, Globe Engineering Limited and the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly.
According to him, the purpose of the visit was to verify the feasibility of the project and assess the adequacy of the land earmarked for the development. He expressed satisfaction with the size and location of the site, indicating that it was suitable for the proposed investment.
Dr Benarkuu further announced that the Agenda 111 Hospital project at Kunsu has been incorporated into the overall project to ensure its completion alongside the proposed Nursing and Midwifery Training College.
He disclosed that the integrated development would comprise an eight-unit two-storey classroom block for the proposed Nursing and Midwifery Training College, a four-storey hostel with a capacity of 1,200 students, a five-storey residential apartment block comprising 24 apartments for lecturers, health professionals and other staff, an integrated solar power system to provide uninterrupted electricity for all facilities, and the completion of the Agenda 111 Hospital.
He noted that the integrated project is intended to create a modern health training and healthcare hub capable of serving the District and beyond.
Speaking to the media, Evans Kwadwo Afful, Deputy Managing Director of Globe Engineering Limited, revealed that the total investment is estimated at US$30 million. He assured residents that the company has the financial strength, technical expertise and proven track record to successfully execute the project within 12 months after commencement.
Evans Afful stated that Globe Engineering is currently undertaking major infrastructure projects in Koforidua, Accra, Takoradi and Sunyani, and remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure on schedule while creating employment opportunities for local artisans, suppliers and labourers throughout the construction period.
The District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, described the project as one of the most significant investments expected to transform the District's health and education sectors.
He disclosed that shortly after assuming office as District Chief Executive, he initiated discussions with the CEO of DODCARS on the possibility of establishing a Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the District to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals and provide tertiary education opportunities for young people.
According to Hon. Sedik, the proposed institution will function as a degree campus of the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College, thereby expanding access to professional nursing education while boosting the local economy and improving healthcare delivery.
He assured the investors that the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly would provide the maximum support required to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Kunsuhene, Nana Dr Agyemang Badu Duah I, expressed profound appreciation to Globe Engineering, DODCARS LBG and the District Assembly for bringing such a transformational project to Kunsu.
He pledged the full support of the traditional authority, assuring the developers that the project site would be adequately protected throughout the construction period.
He further promised that additional land would be released whenever necessary to facilitate future expansion.
The proposed investment is expected to position the Ahafo Ano South West District as an emerging centre for healthcare delivery, medical education and socio-economic development, while creating employment opportunities and improving access to quality health services for residents across the District and neighbouring communities.
