Our Story
It all started in 2016 during the farming season, when our Founder - Moses Yangnemenga went to Nandom as usual to support his Dad on the farm. As usual, that year - 2016 was not different, despite toiling for months on the farm, harvest were meagre. Because, the Moses’ Dad did not have the cash to pay for fertilizer, seeds and other farm inputs upfront. Looking around, Moses observed that, this was a peculiar issue among all the farmers in his community. Farmers often plant their crops and then go to look for money to buy fertilizer and when they finally get the money to buy the fertilizer, the crops have already grown stunted. As such, they harvest little even when they apply fertilizer. Eventually, farmers become less interested in the use of fertilizer.
Thinking about this issue, Moses founded TIEME NDO a high impact social enterprise aimed at shaping rural farmers aspirations by providing them regular and timely access to improved basic farm inputs such as fertilizer, seeds, agrochemicals and agriculture support services like training, extension services, tractor services and market to sell the produce. Far beyond TIEME NDO’s commitment to increase crop yields and end hunger among rural farmers is to train farmers on how to add value to their farm produce before sending to the market to sell or before they are consumed.
TIEME NDO pilot started last year in May, 2017 at Nandom in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Interestingly, within 3 months of pilot, Tieme Ndo had distributed over 1000bags of fertilizer, seeds and weedicides to more than 400 farmers (more than initial target of 130 farmers) from 30 communities at Nandom. Each farmer was given 3 bags of fertilizer, certified maize seeds and 1 litre of selective weedicides. Training sessions were organised to teach farmers how to use the inputs appropriately. Coupled with this, a team of extension officers visit farmers on their fields to ensure the right application of agricultural practices.
TIEME NDO is still young and in this 2018, the startup is looking forward change the way rural farmers view agriculture.
