National Youth Authority-WR

National Youth Authority-WR A medium created by The National Youth Authority - Western Region for the youth of the region and affiliate offices.

The National Youth Authority (NYA) which was established in 1974 by NRDC 241 is thus the Statutory Public Organization with the mandate to ensure the empowerment of the Ghanaian youth and it is under the Ministry for Youth & Sports. YOUTH DEFINITION AND CATEGORIZATION

In Ghana, the youth are defined as people between the ages of 15 and 35 years. The Youth are categorised as:

• Rural and Urban

Male and Female
• Adolescent and Adults
• Physically Challenged and Able-Bodied
• In-School and Out-of-School
• Organized and Unorganized
Skilled and Unskilled


CORE ACTIVITY OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH AUTHORITY

The NYA registers youth groups and associations throughout the country to build reliable data for effective programming. It provides out-of-school youth, especially the deprived, with skills training through the Youth Leadership and Skills training Institutes. It organizes youth programmes to provide them with the best information to enable them make informed choices on health and career, while sensitizing them on governance, civic responsibilities and morality. It also provides opportunities for the youth to build their own enterprises and create wealth for themselves and the nation. The NYA runs distance education in Youth Development Work with the University of Ghana, Legon. It also coordinates the activities of all youth organizations and formulates policies and programs in respect of all youth activities.

Ghana marked its 61st Independence anniversary and the Western Region version was held at the Takoradi Jubilee park with a parade. The event kick-starts a series of activities scheduled to take place as part of the anniversary celebration. The Independence Day Parade held at the Takoradi Jubilee park was expected to be observed by millions of Ghanaians across the country. A lot of dignitaries; the Western Regional Minister, Various Head of the security bodies etc were there to grace the occasion.

AFRICA YOUTH DAY 2017 IN SESSION
National Youth Authority-Western Region observed the Africa Youth Day with a Youth Forum on the theme "HARNESSING THE DEMOGRAPHIC DIVIDEND THROUGH INVESTMENTS IN YOUTH".
The forum was essential since it provided Youth the platform to discuss and reflect on the theme whiles celebrating important milestones on youth development across the globe and also pondered on the high unemployment levels and education challenges faced by our young adults.
The Regional Minister Hon Dr Kweku Afriyia in his keynote address, assured the Youth that government would ensure the full operationalisation of the National Youth Authority Act 939 of 2016 to the benefit of the Ghanaian Youth.
This he explained the Aspiration 6 of Agenda 2063 which talks of an African whose development being people driven, relying on the potential of African people, especially its women, youth and caring for children.
There has never been a dull moment during Youth meetings in the region were youth interact and create network with Officialdom to ensure progress and wellbeing of the youth in the region.
