ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL COUNCILS OF AFRICA - 28TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The 28th Annual Conference of the Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) is currently underway at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, bringing together medical professionals, researchers, scholars, delegates, and exhibitors from across Africa and beyond.

Being held under the theme “Responsive Regulation for Safer Communities Towards Universal Health Coverage,” the conference is examining effective health regulation, patient safety, quality healthcare delivery, and equitable access to essential health services. The conference runs from Monday, August 24, to Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The opening ceremony was graced by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana; Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Juaboso; and Prof. Albert Kwaku Akpalu, Board Chairman of the GNPC Foundation and an esteemed member of AMCOA.

The GNPC Foundation, the corporate social investment arm of GNPC, is participating in the ongoing conference as an exhibitor through its Corporate Communications Unit. The Foundation is engaging stakeholders, sharing insights, and exploring partnerships that support its mandate and contribute to sustainable development.

With Community Health as a key focus area, the conference provides the GNPC Foundation with an important platform to connect with professionals and organisations working to advance sustainable health interventions, strengthen healthcare systems, and improve the well-being of communities.

Through its participation, the GNPC Foundation continues to promote innovation, collaboration, and inclusive healthcare solutions that contribute to building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities across Ghana.

Partnership for Impact

Partnerships that drive sustainable impact

The GNPC Foundation assisted by Baobab Consulting and Coral Reef Innovation Africa Limited recently engaged with the Milken Institute in Washington, D.C., for an exploratory conversation on opportunities to strengthen partnerships, mobilize investment, and advance sustainable development across Ghana.

The conversation highlighted the importance of building strategic partnerships that go beyond funding—connecting communities, investors, institutions, and development partners to create lasting impact.

Key areas of mutual interest include infrastructure, agriculture, critical minerals, education, sports infrastructure, apparel and textiles, and sustainable value chains, as well as opportunities to scale innovative financing models.

A key highlight was the GNPC Foundation’s revolving fund model, which demonstrates how catalytic capital can be recycled to support sustainable livelihoods and create opportunities for communities over the long term.

The Foundation looks forward to deepening collaboration with the Milken Institute and other partners to unlock opportunities, strengthen local enterprises, promote sustainability, and create meaningful impact in the communities where we operate.

Advancing Sustainable Impact: GNPC Foundation Explores Strategic Advisory Partnership with Blacklin Associates

We are excited to share highlights from a high-level exploratory meeting held on Monday, August 3, 2026, in Washington, D.C., between the GNPC Foundation and Blacklin Associates. Facilitated by Baobab Consulting, this pivotal dialogue focused on strengthening the Foundation’s long-term partnership networks, investment strategies, and resource mobilization efforts.

As the demand for sustainable development grows in Ghana’s underserved communities, GNPC Foundation is actively seeking innovative paths to secure financial sustainability and expand its community-driven mandate across Ghana.
Key Strategic Pillars discussed during the session include:

• Leveraging AI & Advanced Technology​
Exploring emerging opportunities to integrate Artificial Intelligence into vital local sectors—such as fintech, health, and precision agriculture—to maximize the efficiency and reach of our developmental projects.
• Innovative Resource Mobilization​
Transitioning toward innovative financing frameworks to unlock additional capital, allowing the Foundation to build resilient, multi-sector partnerships that extend far beyond traditional grant funding.
• Infrastructure & Clean Energy Alignment​
Identifying strategic gaps and opportunities in data center development, reliable power generation, and alternative energy fields (such as wind, solar, and critical minerals) to drive sustainable, long-term social investments.
By aligning with international experts like Blacklin Associates, the GNPC Foundation continues to refine how we tell our story to global philanthropic partners and traditional social impact investors. Our goal remains clear: to build a more visible, self-sustaining, and impactful foundation that reliably serves the changing needs of Ghanaian communities.

GNPC FOUNDATION ENGAGES HALCYON ON STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The GNPC Foundation, led by its Executive Director, Helga J. M. Boadi, held an exploratory meeting with Halcyon in Washington, D.C., on Monday, August 3, 2026, to explore potential areas of collaboration, funding, and strategic partnership.

Halcyon is a development oriented company supporting early-stage entrepreneurs working across climate resilience, health, and equity technology, with programmes spanning Africa, Latin America and other regions. In Africa, its programmes have engaged entrepreneurs and ventures from countries including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, among others.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to share their priorities and explore innovative approaches to financing and delivering sustainable development initiatives in Ghana.
Discussions highlighted potential areas of collaboration including entrepreneurship development, climate resilience, infrastructure, electrification, agriculture, health, and sustainable livelihoods.

The meeting also explored opportunities to leverage partnerships with development finance institutions, multinational companies, extractive industry players and other international partners to mobilise resources for impactful projects in Ghana.

Halcyon has championed the GNPC Foundation's next institutional evolution: standardizing advanced capital modeling to project funding needs with precision. This collaborative effort highlights how targeted capital infusions compound community impact, while accelerating the deployment of modernized, self-sustaining financial vehicles across the Foundation's development portfolio

The engagement forms part of the GNPC Foundation's broader efforts to build strategic international partnerships, mobilise resources and develop innovative solutions that can expand opportunities and create sustainable impact for Ghanaians.

STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS. EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES . TRANSFORMING LIVES.

On Friday, July 10, 2026, a delegation from the GNPC Foundation's Education and Career Development Department, led by the Foundation's Managing Director, Helga J. M. Boadi, paid a working visit to Takoradi Technical University (TTU) to deepen collaboration and explore new opportunities that extend beyond the Foundation's National Scholarship Scheme.
The delegation was warmly received by the University's Pro Vice-Chancellor Ing. Prof. Ebenezer Boakye, Registrar Dr Moses Maclean Abnory, Dean of Students Prof. Eric Bruce-Amartey Jnr., and Director of Academic Affairs Mrs Olivia Agyemang. Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as the first official engagement with the Foundation's Managing Director and a clear demonstration of the renewed commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two institutions.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore innovative ways of enhancing their collaboration. While the GNPC Foundation's scholarship programme remains a cornerstone of the partnership, discussions focused on expanding support to include entrepreneurship development, career readiness training, structured mentorship, leadership development, and other capacity-building initiatives that will better prepare students for the evolving world of work.

These interventions are expected to equip GNPC Foundation scholarship beneficiaries—and the wider student community—with the practical skills, leadership qualities, and entrepreneurial mindset required to excel professionally and contribute meaningfully to Ghana's socio-economic development.
Helga J. M. Boadi reaffirmed the Foundation's commitment to empowering young people through quality education and skills development. She also expressed her appreciation to the leadership of TTU for their continued partnership in advancing not only the National Scholarship Scheme but also the Foundation's broader educational interventions aimed at creating opportunities for students and preparing them for lifelong success.

EMPOWERING WOMEN. STRENGTHENING COASTAL LIVELIHOODS.

The GNPC Foundation through its Enterprise and Livelihood Development Department continues to invest in women-led enterprises by supporting 40 women fishmongers and fish processors from six coastal communities in the Western Region - Ngyeresia, European Town, Sekondi, Nkomtompo, Ekuase and Apewosika under its Women Fishmongers and Processors Livelihood Support Project.

On Thursday July 9, 2026, an orientation forum was organized as part of the initial phase of the project, where beneficiaries received practical training in business management, financial literacy, and the Foundation's non-interest micro support facility to help them grow sustainable businesses.

The program also featured expert sessions from the Western Regional Directorate of Fisheries Commission on improved fish handling and preservation, and GCB Bank on savings and sound financial management. Chief Fishermen and Representatives of the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council and other stakeholders were present at the event.

The Managing Director of GNPC Foundation, Ms. Helga JM Boadi assured beneficiaries that beyond financial support, the initiative will provide enterprise mentoring, market linkages, and environmental sanitation support for the selected communities.

The project, which is being piloted in the Western Region is expected to strengthen livelihoods and build resilient coastal communities, with plans to expand to include more women in the coastal districts.

Together, GNPC Foundation is empowering women, growing local businesses, and creating lasting impact—one community at a time.

The exercise reflects the Foundation’s commitment to environmental responsibility, community well-being, and active citizenship.

A team from the GNPC Foundation, led by the Managing Director, Helga J.M. Boadi, paid a high-level working visit to the leadership of the University of Cape Coast (UCC). The delegation from GNPC Foundation was warmly welcomed by the Ag. Vice Chancellor of UCC, Professor Denis Worlanyor Aheto PhD, the Registrar, Gideon Abbeyquaye Esq, the Dean of Students Professor Daniel Apaak, Chairperson for Scholarship Selection Sub-Committee, Professor Samuel Kwesi Nkansah and the Head of Students’ Financial Support Office Ms. Alice Emily Dadzie Okyere.
The visit marked a pivotal step toward strengthening institutional ties and expanding the impact of their partnerships. The primary focus of the engagement was a firsthand assessment of strategic opportunities to reposition how the GNPC FOUNDATION and the University of Cape Coast can work better together. While financial support has been the bedrock of the collaboration, both institutions are looking beyond traditional scholarship funding to create a more holistic support system for students.

The discussions explored critical avenues for broadening cooperation to encompass Entrepreneurship Development, Career Readiness Training, Structured Mentorship, and Leadership Incubation. These targeted capacity building initiatives are designed to equip the GNPC FOUNDATION Scholarship Beneficiaries at UCC with cross-cutting competencies and practical skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global economic landscape.
Ultimately, this approach is aimed at equipping our graduates to become active contributors to Ghana's sustainable development.

Throughout the dialogue, leadership from both organizations reaffirmed their shared commitment to nurturing future-ready, value-driven graduates through innovative, high-impact programs.

The Managing Director of the GNPC Foundation further assured the leadership of the University of continued support for programs and modules aimed at achieving a holistic performance of Scholarship beneficiaries in UCC. This further deepens the goal of GNPC Foundation to Impact the lives of students and develop a talent pool for Nation Building.
The Ag. Vice Chancellor of UCC expressed profound gratitude to the Managing Director and her team for the visit. He shared insightful perspectives on optimizing the scholarship framework, ensuring it evolves seamlessly to meet the demands of modern tertiary education and national human resource needs.
