The Tolon District Secretariat of the National Youth Authority in collaboration with Advocacy Network organized this year's International Day of the Girl Child by bring about five different Junior High Schools together to celebrate the event at the Tolon District Assembly on Tuesday 17th October, 2023.
The theme for this year’s celebration at the District was " Ending the cycle of illiteracy: empowering the Girl Child". As part of the District Director of NYA welcome address Mr. Abdul-Muhsin Mohammed Saani stated that ending the cycle of illiteracy among girl child is a shared responsibility of our communities which goes beyond just parents or teachers.
However, he admonished the young girls to as well take their studies serious and not allowed any irresponsible act to truncate their dreams and vision of life. He added that, we can’t always prepare the future for the young girls, but we can always prepare the girl child for the future, because they are the representative of the solution to the numerous challenges that we face as a country.
A communique was prepared and read by a student from Tolon Naa Girls Model to the District Director of GES, pointing out the hindrances to the smooth accessibility of education by the girl child in the District. Which was later submitted to the District Directorate to be considered when designing programs or enacting policies to facilitate the accessibility of education by the Girl child.
The Regional Coordinator for the Girls advocacy Network (GAN) Miss Salifu Faiza, in her vote of thanks expressed our gratitude to the GES Directorate of Tolon and all stakeholders who graced the program to it success. And finally, she appealed to the duty bearers of the District to seriously consider the communique for it informed by an assessment conducted in the district.
In attendance were the District Director of GES, the District HR of GES, the District Coordinator for Girls Education, ADO of Ghana Fire Service Tolon, Yendi Municipal Director of NYA, the Executive Director of CSIF, the Northern Regional Coordinator of ACTIVISTA-Ghana, REPS from Marie Stopes, REPS from EMCEP and from REPS from GAN.
